Chain grease on shorts :(

Sheesh.

I can't stop getting grease from my chain ring on my shorts. It seems that every time I ride, I either pick the bike up, lock it up, come to a hard stop, or something; hell, I don't have a clue how it happens sometimes. But my shorts are starting to get, well, permanently stained.

I've tried wiping excess chain oil off; that seems to help somewhat. After I heard my chain squeaking the other day, I admit that I freaked out and applied a lot of oil; the chain stopped squeaking, but the first time I hit the bike up against my body, you should have seen the mark it left!

Any tips for washing the oil out/putting the proper amount on/not hitting up against the chain or crank every damn day?

Cheers.

ps. Bought the bike (haro v2) march 18th, today the odometer went over 1k miles. I feel good.

I used to do same
Had these weird looking chain marks across back of my leg like a strange tribal tattoe.

I learned to always get on, off, and manhandle my bike from the left (non chain) side.

We call that a "rookie ring" or "rookie tattoo" You'll just have to become aware of it and avoid it like Jarery said.

I use Zout, which works very well if you work it into the stain. But like any packaged cleaning product I'm sure there's a way to make your own grease remover.

I like that Simple Green stuff. Sure did a nice job on the rags I used to clean my chain last week.

You could always move to Australia
Here we ride on the left side of the road, not the right side (well for me it's the right side of the road ) and so it's natural to mount the bike from it's left side (non-chain side)...so no chain tattoo's down under

It's strange how the grease gets on the back of your leg but you can't remember the chain rubbing your leg.
