urban cyclist survey.

not my survey, but i figured this would be the best place to post it to help the creators cause.

its about safety in urban commuting so maybe for those of you who hate what little is being done about the growing bike commuter population, this could possibly help out. ok, heres the link...

Pretty good survey. What is up with the 'safety equipment needs to be more fashionable' angle though...?

A bit poorly contructed from my point of view. It doesn't offer a wide enough range of options for some of the questions and makes a presumption of certain answers. Certainly seems to think that the better method of enhancing cyclist safety is by selling fashionable safety wear. Something of an odd notion as fashion is solely an issue of perception dictated by market forces and risks.

I thought it was pretty obvious that the surveyor was interested in designing bike-related safety gear. I don't feel there's a need for safety gear specifically designed for urban riders.

Well, maybe some spinny hubcaps and a flak jacket. Depends where you ride.

I'd like to see a wider variety of generator lamp solutions available; I think urban cyclists would have the most to gain from better lighting solutions for commuting, particularly something like a bright LED-based headlamp powered by a generator and with a backup capacitor and electronic smarts to provide visibility when stopped at a light.

A bigger rear-facing reflector and a strong, metal reflector bracket would be nice, too. I'm tired of building my own to replace the tiny, dim reflectors on flimsy plastic clamps that come with new bikes.

How about building reflector panels into the backs of cycling shoes, gloves, and helmets, so I don't have to stick on my own?

hmm, my shoes have a panel, but it's pretty small.

I don't disagree with the other things you said, but I spend most of my thought & energy trying to make sure I'm riding safely. Maybe if I had more "safety stuff" it wouldn't take so much effort.
