Taillight that mounts to the back of a rack?

I need a taillight that mounts to the rear mounting point of a rack but one that is batter operated. All the ones I keep finding are the ones that have the seat post clamps.

A lot of the ones with seat post clamps will also mount to the rack. Even for ones that don't come with the right parts, a short trip to the local hardware store can get you a bracket or straight piece of metal that allows you do do what you want.

Take a piece of very thick Rubber/Plastic Tubing
Cut about 1 inch length
Cut a slit down the length to mount somewhere on your Rack.
Clamp it to the Tubing/Rack tight (with the Light's Clamp) ...it won't move!

Depending on the rack you have... What rack do you have?

Cateye TL-LD 1000.

And most lights can have the seatpost bracket removed and bolt onto a rack. Not all , but most. They will mount on a seatstay too.

That's the light i have!
The back of my nitto rack as a flat plate facing the rear with one hole in it. I just can't figure out how to mount the light. I took off the mounting plates and i see a hole that i might be able to thread a screw into. I just didn't know if that would be secure enough and was worried about screwing into the back of the taillight...

Ugly but effective: https://home.comcast.net/~joejackson9...a/MVC-534F.JPG

The OMM racks have no bracket at the back for attaching anything so I cobbled this solution together with a mix of pieces from home and work.

The instructions explain it. The light comes with a screw to go through that hole in the rack and into the light. It's got to be the screw that came with that light or another reflector as it cuts the threads in the plastic as your tighten it, it has to be just right. Any new reflector will have one of those screws in it. It's one thing on bikes that is pretty universal.

A reflector bracket from a bike shop will bolt up to that hole in the rear of the rack plate, and fit that light too.

2manybikes, thanks for the help. I found the box in my garage but no screw.
The instructions on the box and the pdf instructions at cateye.com don't make any mention of mounting other than using the seatclamp.
I pulled a screw out of a reflector i had but it seems to thick for either hole on the back of the light. Btw, which hole do I use? I was assuming the one that protrudes out because it actually fits through the hole in the rack and sits flush. I guess I will make a trip to the hardware store and try to find a screw that fits. Do you know long should the treaded part of the screw be?

Most reflector brackets and many racks have two holes in them. You put the round tube that sticks out into one hole just to hold it still, and the screw goes into the other slightly larger hole. The screw should not fit in too easy, because it makes a tight fit in the plastic as you tighten it down. If you have a screw from a reflector it is probably the right one. But it's hard for me to be sure with holding it myself. Can you take it to a bike shop to get the right screw?

I just looked at a couple of reflector screws that I took out of reflectors. They would go in the larger of the two holes on the Cateye, I just noticed if you look very carefully in good light you can see screw threads on the inside of the larger hole and not the small one. With the "Cateye" label on the top that would be the bottom hole. The one that does not stick out. Some people get a feel for how hard to tighten that screw by doing over and over again. Be very careful to not get it too tight.

To judge the length of the screw you have, put the screw in the rack hole from the back and hold it. Look at how much is sticking out, then look at the hole in the light and see if you can tell by looking if the screw is too long or too short.

I put a Cateye TL-LD600 along the rear of my Jandd rack by turning the seatpost bracket sideways to form an "L" with a bolt through the top of the rack. I thought the long string of LEDs looked very visible along the rear of the rack.

... or you could ghetto it using zipties:

That's a t-shaped plastic bracket with 2 holes 50mm apart (standard taillight 2 screw spacing), and the vertical part accepts the back of the light that would normally slide into the clothing / belt clip. The zipties are for extra security (and STYLE!!).

I bought a light with the chainstay mounts. Those are small enough to mount on the rack.

Those dang LD1000s are almost too big to mount on the seatpost, even though that is the mount that they come with. I also moved mine to the rear rack (used a reflector mounting from the LBS) because it was wide enough to rub my legs when mounted on the seat post.
