Good morning everyone,
I hope all is well,
Im looking at doing the sandal thing as I hate wet shoes in the spring and hot feet in the summer.
Ive read many of the sandal posts but did not get much from them other than most use the shimano sandal .
1) shimano seems to be the #1 choice pretty much 80.00 no matter where you look
2) Lake is a far away #2 its implied that they are made by #1 on a few different blogs but the lakes are heavier /thicker soles and the toe section has that wierd looking upturn that I suppose could give your feet some protection. more or less the same price as shimano but can be found discounted a tad here and there.
3) then there is Exustar and sette It looks like they are the same sandal just different brand pasted on the strap these are the supposed LOW end at 29.95
has anyone realy looked at all 3 (4)or has anyone rode with the lake and shimano that could offer feedback.
my foot is 11.5 wide my commute is 18.5 mile not much walking to be done
im pretty much thinking lake or shimano (Im pretty much a fan of you get what you pay for the most part) but no LBS (7) in my area have any sandals I can try or even look at so ??
many thanks

I'm also a 11.5 wide. I orderd a pair of Lake sandals in size 47. The sole of the sandals was stamped with Shaimano but the uppers appear to be slightly different. I suspect that the sole is the same but Lake makes thier own shoe. I wear a Lake 47 road shoe and a 46 wide MTB shoe, however the 47 sandal was much too long and still just barely wide enough. I felt I would not be able to use heavy wool socks with the shoes and I would still be tripping over the excessive length.
In summary I don't recommend Lake or Shaimano sandals for anyone with wide feet.

I just ordered a pair of Shimano's from Kozy's in Chicago. They were on closeout (there is a new model for 2006) for $52. I must've gotten the last pair in that size because they appear to only have a very small size left.

They were even cheaper at Nashbar, but they didn't have my size.

thanks for the info,
HMM this could be a problem, Like you I wear a 46(wide) Lake mountain shoe. if I wont be able to do the warm layer/waterproof sock deal under the staps on the sandal, they will be a no go then.
bummer I hate the neoprene covers.
fred flinstone feet errr!!

I only have experience with Shimano SD-60. I love them and have >8k miles on one pair and they work as good as new. I wear them without socks (when >50F) and with and they are equally comfortable both ways. Nice stiff sole for cycling, but also great for walking (have done 6mi hike in them)
I have 11.5+ foot size (but not wide) and use the 47/48 sandal size. The footbed sticks out maybe 1/2" greater than my toes, which is great for protection when riding singletrack with lots of big rocks. I can also fit two very thick socks in them.
