Well it sure isn't Beijing, or anywhere else in China, because you can still see the pavement. Beijing streets are wall to wall bikes 24/7.

Hong Kong is more like replacing every single bike in that picture with an (air conditioned/tv providing) double decker bus and a taxi. Crazy traffic there!!!

Mountains in the background, a building that says something "Cafe", non-white bread faces, and huge bike lanes in the median area. I have no idea. I'll guess either Amsterdam or somewhere a little further east. Somewhere in Turkey??

Singlespeed got it. Bogota it is. I found the pic in Transportation Alternatives (NYC) e-magazine.
http://www.transalt.org/e-bulletin/2006/Feb/0202.html

It was a ciclovia, that are regularly organized by the mayor. With all that traffic, they probably can't ride as fast as we can.

I saw it in Transportation Alternatives. It's incredible that a dirt poor thirld world country like Bogota would be so far ahead of the rest of the industrial nations regarding Peds and Cycling.

Helmets must not be too popular in Columbia.

They're not popular in Buenos Aires either. I just got back from a couple of weeks in Argentina and Chile, and I think I saw only two cyclists with helmets -- out of thousands. The day I rented a bike, I asked about a helmet and the guy just kinda chuckled.

While Iceland is indeed an island, it is considered part of Europe, just like England.

Definitely not Iceland.

Iceland has some very hardy cyclists who pedal all winter, but not that many.

The saddest part of the oilfreeandhappy's picture is that 2/3 of the road surface is devoted to cars.

I was in Iceland last year and the subject came up. The consensus was that they were very Americanized Europeans. After all, they speak the purest Viking tongue, they have been ruled by Denmark, and the closest country is Great Britain. But they do love their Coca Cola.
