On Monday, I started work with a different company and drove to work the first couple of days just to get set up in the office...I really didn't like driving those two days!

Anyway, my commute used to be 18-20km each way depending on the route I took. My new office building is the same direction as my last one but is about 10km further. And another plus is that it isn't downtown. So the ride this morning was just over 28km and took me 54 minutes. I can go almost the entire way along bikepaths which is nice...I just have to double back a bit when I get near work. Overall, the commute is great, I like the extra distance and the fact that I don't have to deal with downtown traffic (even though that wasn't really too bad).

Sounds perfect. I've only been to Calgary once but the trails I rode on were beautiful.

Took a different route on the way home...it was 28.5km and took me just over an hour. It was all into a fairly strong headwind and there is some decent elevation gain at the end. All in all, I'm pretty happy with the new job, more money/benefits and a better commute!

The trail system here is great. Unfortunately I don't have the opportunity to take any on my commute. My short 5km commute takes me up and down fairmount drive in the SE.

That's impressive, I calculate that to be an average speed of a little under 20MPH.on trails wow...I can't get anywhere near that on my commute.

The path system is great but I like the fact that I can ride trails (i.e., singletrack/offroad trails) almost all the way to work. At least I could to the old office...this new location would require a little more time on paved surfaces. I'll be trying that shortly...it should be over 30km to work then.

Yesterday, the computer reported the average speed at around 30km/h...today I was faster and average speed was 31.7km/h. In the summer, on my road bike, my best average was just over 39km/h and normal was 37-38km/h. But I wasn't riding on what I call trails, I was on bike paths/roads so they are nice paved surfaces.

I don't take it easy when I ride...I look at my commutes as training rides and always try to beat previous best times.

Me neither, I used to average about 14 mph. on my upright bike due to the abundance of traffic lights and hills (not to mention the weight I carry.)

Nice! I'd love to "have to" ride 28ish kms each way twice a day. And nice tempo too. I found it impossible to sustain that sort of speed on the Hudson Greenway when I commuted along it (the only flat commute I ever had) because of the brutal winds along the river and the brutally clueless Greenway users.
