Yet another Guess what I saw thread

I was riding along the cherry creek trail in Denver on my way home after work.
A description of this path would be in order.
It runs along a creek 20 feet or so below rode level between the east and west bound lanes of a busy street. The whole area has a nice ambience (at least I think so) and is frequented by quite a few cyclists, peds, and rollerbladers. On a nice warm day the amount of traffic is overwhelming.
Also, it is the same path a car fell onto last week (if you remember that thread).

Anyhow, I was riding along at a decent pace and noticed a group of youngsters standing on top of the wall next to an overpass that crosses the trail. Something like 6 male teenagers surrounding 1 female. That is not odd in of itself. What was odd was what the female had in her hand. It was a clear glass pipe and she was in the process of smoking something out of it. WTF? In the middle of a highly used trail? Egads. I never smoked weed out of a clear glass pipe when I smoked that back in the day. I'm thinking it may have been another lovely drug like meth or crack.
It's not like I was going to stick around and find out. I hightailed it out of there.

It's called a bong. It's used for smoking pot.

No it is not. I used to make bongs. This was not a bong or any other type of weed smoking pipe.
But thanks for the thought.

Did you give them the 'hang loose' hand gesture?

I saw bald eagles at least twice on last week's commute. 2 hunting above the ship canal, and one right when I opened my apartment door, idly circling.

I once had the misfortune of witnessing what a crack pipe looks like. It appeared to likely be the same type of pipe or something similar. I've been out of those circles for something like 11 years. Thank god.
I barely drink much less do anything else.

What? How wide was it? I've only ever seen pot smoked on TV, so maybe I'm a little naive...

Bongs tend to be more vertically oriented to fit the water. Pipes tend to be more horizontally oriented. Anyhow, I'm dredging up a bit of my past I would rather leave be. So.....

Yesterday I came upon a pair of animals I thought were foxes. However, they were twice the size and did not appear scared of me. I have no clue what they were.

If the animals (I'm a square so I wouldn't know anything about drug stuff ) were not red but more of a brown color and larger (about the size of a collie) they were probably coyotes (see below). Pretty common in the Denver area.

I've got a clear (horizontal) glass pipe made for smoking weed.
I could see it looking like a crackpipe to someone who is 20' away.

I think you are correct. We had coyotes in SE Washington state. I have never happened upon one before yesterday. Cool.

Maybe so. However, we will never know. Stopping to ask them wasn't on my list of priorites. Especially considering that all were dressed in similar colors. Read into that what you want. I tend to err on the cautious side.

it was weed! glass is popular these days to smoke from. some of these dvices get very big and intricate as they are often handblown much like a vase would be.

or maybe it was crack, but i find hardcore drug users to be much more secretive in their practices.

did it happen to be 4:20? (you can look it up if you want to know the meaning, it's stupid, just like smoking pot on the side of a busy trail )

You should have asked if they were looking for their car.

could've been a bong but my assumption is, if you once made them, you know what pot smells like and you do not report smelling pot, which if you're cycling along taking deep breaths you would have gotten a good whiff. I certainly get whiffs of pot, cigarette smoke etc either on the bike path or even alongside cars on the roadway.

My guess then is crack or meth but I have to say really stupid kids to be smoking that so publicly. If it was crack or meth and they are that bold I would also consider them, unlike a bunch of kids sitting around smoking a bong, a bit more dangerous.

and my vote is that the fox like animals were coyotes. Which are everywhere these days and love to form gangs and are getting bolder and often seen smoking out of glass pipes by the sides of trails outside of urban areas as well as in remote wilderness.
