To prepare for the big ride to work today I did 18 miles on my road bike on Saturday. My shoulders and upper arms were sore all afternoon but was gone by that evening.
Did 7 miles around the neighborhood on my commuter bike yesterday. Where did my stamina go? Can I sue my doctor for loss of stamina and strength, since he's the one who said no riding for 3 months? Riding the trainer for the last two months helped a little, but not as much as I'd hoped.
My commute is 8.5 miles and today I stopped at about the 5 mile point for my twice a week physical therapy (pt). I always have to "warm up" by doing 10 minutes on the hand cycle(??) machine. Warms up the arms and shoulders. I was wiping the sweat off before I started.
A fellow cyclist (hit by an SUV) who is in pt for the same shoulder problem was glad to see I was able to ride. He's about two weeks ahead of me and started riding last week.
So anyway, I left pt more tired than when I got there. Hungry too. I did the last 3.5 miles to work riding rather slowly for some reason.
I can't make any promises about riding tomorrow. I may have to bring the bike on the roof rack. Everyone here at work is doing the Ride to the Capitol. It's about 6 miles from work to the meeting place, then riding to the capitol, and then back to the office; carrying signs or flags on the bike the entire trip. Gotta save some strength and energy for that.

It must feel good to be back after three months. I was off the bike for two weeks (travel + illness) and it felt like forever. Welcome back!

Congrats. Now you get to actually ride instead of just writing about it here (and keeping the rest of us in line).

I'll look for you tomorrow. You should be easy to spot in the crowd of 600+.
My concern is dealing with the cool morning before the ride--I don't want to carry anything more than necessary. The NWS is predicting 35°F for Roswell on Tuesday morning. I don't think my thermal shirt and HHCMF shirt will be enough. Hope the air is warmer riding behind the mayors.
Get a good night's rest and happy trails!

Good luck on yoru ride tomorrow. Make sure you stretch well after you've warmed up the muscles, and if you can get into a whirlpool afterwards, even better.

It gets easier. I recall the early commuting days 20 years ago. I would slow down to rest. Now, even with the added years, I feel like I can go forever. Well almost :-)
