Necessities
Things in life you can't live without:
1) Job...
2) Rent/Mortgage.
3) Electricity.
4) Heat/Cool.
5) Food.
6) Automobile.
7) Insurance.
8) Cigarettes.
9) Beer.
10) Movies.
11) Bicycle.
12) Sex.
Maybe I've got these backwards...
(help!)

Every lane is a bike lane
The following from the above list are things that Chris L successfully lives without:
6. Automobile
8. Cigarettes
9. Beer
2. Heat/Cool (well, at least the cool part. There's more than enough heat where Chris L lives at the moment. )
14. Boyfriends (sorry, Chris L is not that way inclined)
15. Posting in first-person.
Oh yeah, 12 right now, too. Although Chris L is hoping to rectify that at some point.

Okay, I thought this was like the necessities for winter commuting by bike. Like:
Tyres
Inner tubes
pump
skid lid
chamios shorts
gloves
tights
Wind jacket
polypro (wicking) clothing
layers
panniers
glasses
balakava
boots
socks
turtle necks
keeping the bike upright
chapstick
vaseline
arm warmers
just to name a few necessities that come to mind...
As far as what you mention as necessities well I can live without:
a job. I have one, doesn't mean I need one
nope electricity I've managed without too, every year I go off for a couple days to weeks and manage just fine with taking my home on my back or my bike.
Food's a necessity
I own a car again, but I ride more then I drive, when the weather's nice I put the car away and ride, there by elemenating the need for either car or insurance.
Cigs and beer I've given up, quit, whatever, I use to think/live for those two too, not any more.
Movies, well there aren't a lot that thrill me any more, it's one of those dark winter activities, summer I'm riding, I don't have time for TV, movies, (heck I don't have the money).
Bikes, yep necessity, they're my antidepressant.
I would like to say I'm working on this one too. I'm not.

1) a sturdy ship
2) stars that reveal True North
3) a clear dawn
i mean this figuratively, of course. the true meaning of "sturdy ship," "stars," "true north," and a "clear dawn" are open to interpretation and have nothing to do with the sea.
