Favorite "oh crud I'm going to bonk" recovery foods

This week was the first week in a month or two I managed to commute 4 days of 45 miles.
The other weeks were 3 days at most due to allergies and a wreck.
Consequently, as the week wore on my energy level has dropped. Coupled with the parasites living with me (sister in-law, 2 kids, and boyfriend) we have almost no food at home. Thank god they are moving in a week or two after I asked them to do so.
So, today even with eating my usual foods (energy bar and oatmeal), I started getting light headed around 11 am. Not wanting to ride a bike when I was having troubles walking, I headed to the closest food establishment. Purchased a large black angus steak sub from quiznos.
It did the trick perfectly!

So what is your favorite food for preventing a bonk or recovering from a partial or full bonk?
I tend to grab whatever is closest and eat massive amounts of it. McDonalds, wendys, etc

Note: under normal circumstances I really do not care for fast food

Quaker Oatmeal to Go Bars, I keep a couple of boxes in my locker at work at all times. It's a good thing they never put "energy" anywhere on the box or they wouldn't be such a great bargain.

It probably doesn't qualify as "food" but I find that Endurox is a good pick-me-up while I'm in movement. I wouldn't drink the stuff on the couch or anything.

I keep boxes of instant oatmeal and a jar of peanut butter in my desk, and a loaf of bread and package of string cheese in the fridge (I've been in Wisconsin too long). I keep Peak energy bars in my panniers because they're cheap at $.85 each, and keep well.

I know it's boring, but I keep powdered Gatorade at the office. I frequently use it to get just enough energy to get home. I keep a Powerbar in my seat bag. I don't really like Powerbars, but they keep well and are slim enough to fit into a tight space.

But the donuts and steaks sound like more fun.

Hmmm... if I'm really about to crash, it depends -- sometimes my brain says "harken at once to the salted items!" and I have chips, but alternately it'll say "oh man oh man do we need sugar" and I'll grab one of those freakish 2-for-a-dollar pastry things at the nearest convenience store. I might have gatorade, or gatorade and water.

I have an energy gel for the same reason but they just taste nasty. Don't buy bannana nut. ugh!

Candy bars work for me also. However, they do not last very long. Plus with my appetite I need to eat 6 of them.
Peanut butter and anything is just awesome. Just not the smooth variety.
Peanut butter and regular chips are an amusing combo.

Everything I read says carbs is what you eat when you're biking, but carbs seem to do nothing for me. No matter how much of them I eat, I still feel hungry and weak. They can be a pleasant meal addition, but I don't even think of them as real food somehow. When I am hungry I want the real thing: protein. Meat-meat-meat-meat-meat galore!

Of course if I have no alternative, I'll eat those cookies and even make it home. But I won't be a happy biker on cookies alone.

Bacon cheeseburger w/ fries. Or a coke and snickers if the burger's not available.
