Litespeed promotion promotes cars

Interesting they would hold up a car as an example of something for bike shop employees to get excited about. Its not like they were just trying to find something of higher value than a bike. I'm just guessing, but i imagine you could lease a Mini for say $300 a month. The prize is a two year lease, so that's a total value of $7200. It should't be hard to build up a Litespeed with a value equivalent to that, or they could make the prize two Litespeeds, his and hers or a road and an MTb etc.

It just seems kind of clueless to make a car a prize. Kind of like saying bikes our are great, but cars are even better.

Guess they don't read the Wall Street Journal, so they don't know how hip bike commuting is getting these days.

My guess is they may have made a survey of cycling retail employees. Perhaps most of them aren't even bike savvy enough, just there for a job and a paycheck. I've seen it often, like at this one nationwide cycling chainstore, where the person behind the counter does not even know what a rim glue is from a flat repair glue. They would probably prefer a $7200 value lease than a $7200 bike from Litespeed.

And then there are the car companies who (bless their tiny little black hearts) had to give away mountain bikes in order to get you to buy their cars. VW gave away Treks, I think Jeep had their "own" bikes, I think Mercedes had some too, oddly enough, maybe even porsche. Can anyone think of any others?

I thought something was odd about Litespeed this AM at an American Lung Association ride when I saw an Aluminum Litespeed (oh, the horror). Litespeed was always titanium in my mind. Anyone wanna bet the founders have cashed out and the marketing boys have taken over. Hope the rest of you have gotten out in time,

I think I've seen Cadillac and Hummer bikes, not sure if they were given away with cars though.

Ford had a Kona edition focus, you received a bike roof rack and a Kona mountain bike, special interior package with kona seat covers and such. It only lasted a year and am not quite sure how many of these limited edition focus' sold.

I wouldn't be surprised if Mini is offering the lease at a greatly reduced cost to Litespeed as part of the promotion. It is probably costing Litespeed next to nothing to set this up.
