Stuff in my eyes...

First commute today. I wear glasses, but I felt like there was lots of stuff going in my eyes. Even now, a couple of hours later, I feel like my eyes are irritated. Any suggestions on a good coverage wrap around pair of sunglasses (light tint) that I can wear over my glasses?

Thanks.

safety goggles/glasses (for labs, workshops, and shooting ranges)

You can find them in all shapes and sizes and colors. They're available pretty cheaply, like $5-$20 (much less than "designer" glasses). And best of all, they've been tested for impact so you don't have to worry about road debris getting kicked up at your eyes.

If you have lots of money, check out Rudy Project https://www.rudyprojectusa.com/home.htm. You can get prescription inserts that fit right behind the sunglass lenses and most have an interchangeable lenses option.

Back when I had glass lenses I had a set of tinted lense covers that clipped onto the lenses and could flip out of the way when it was dark or shady. Check with an eyewear store or outdoor sports store.

I didnt wear my sunglasses today and passed a street sweeper which kicked a bunch of dirt in my eyes. I actually had to stop until I could clear my eyes out.

Maybe its pollen; it gets high this time of year then it goes away.

Yeah, somebody at work suggested it might be pollen. It's foggy today, so maybe the air will be a little cleaner.

There is so much pollen in the air right now, that it drifts across the road like flurries do in winter. Ha, well, I guess that reference is lost on people below the snow line. In any case, there is a fine layer of the stuff on my nice shiny black trike, the car, and most other surfaces.

I also recommend a pair of cheap-o sunglasses or safety classes to use while riding.

I have been looking at my usual source, Lab Safety Supply, for tinted safety glasses that will go over my (fairly small, flexible) eyeglasses. I want to go that route because safety glasses are cheap and so am I. But I find that their catalog doesn't indicate which ones go over glasses in most cases. Of course you can go with goggles but I'd rather not... If anyone has a recommendation for a specific line of safety glasses that will wrap around eyeglasses and doesn't look too bad, I'd love to hear it.

+9,051 for Rudy Project. If you need glasses to see well (and ride safely) like I do. Then this is the way to go. It's expensive, but well worth it if you commute a lot, especially if you commute every day, it's a good investment, and some eye insurance policy's will cover part, or most of the cost. I got a $300+ setup, two pairs of lenses, top of the line frame, inserts and everything and it only cost me $100 out of pocket.

Just be sure to check that your prescription will work with the clip ins. They won't work with "coke bottle" strength prescriptions.

I bought some Oakley's this past weekend for the same reason - pollen and gnats in my eyes. $104.

I really like the Native Hardtops. Seems to keep flying debris (aka rocks) out of my eyes as well as the occasional insect or two (swarms of gnats). What I appreciate most is that it keeps the wind from drying out my eyes; my wife rides with a typical Wally World pair and complains about her eyes all of the time.

Expensive, but I've found them worth the price.
