Ideally I'd want bike highways built to connect the suburbs to the city. Fully dedicated roads for bikes, referably next to or near highways, smooth paved road, etc.
It wouldn't be too hard to maintain either since trucks are the majority of the reason why asphalt breaks up.

busy highways usually MT in morning.
- the route also doesn't go through any rough neighborhoods
Only the pavement is rough.
- unusual hours that don't put you on the road during rush hour, such as 10-7
Am low traffic way home lots of traffic.
- bike lockers or a secure indoor bikepark are available, or you're allowed to bring your bike inside
Bike lockers activated by code sent to cell phone, flawed but very cool.
- shower facilities and lockers are available
Both.Wooden center, sauna and full gym, climbing wall, racketball courts ect
- liberal dress code, or no dress code. business casual and you don't have to "walk in suited up"
wear jogging pants or scrubs.
Mash up hills, ride the coast or offroad on Mulholland.

Compared to most, I've got it great. I commute only 3 miles, but since I don't have a car I get plenty of chances to ride. Indoor parking and shower are available but I rarely use them. Outdoor parking is secure. Best of all is my work hours, from 3:00 to 11:30 PM. I have many daylight hours before work to ride my little butt off, and a fun late-night commute home.

- the job is a desk job or otherwise sedentary occupation
*Got that
- the office is 5-8 miles away from home, or less
*5 miles
- the route is all low-traffic sidestreets and/or paths all the way from home to office
*several different routes available, which is even better
- the route also doesn't go through any rough neighborhoods
*matter of perspective. I don't think they're bad, but I do have suburban friends who wouldn't drive there.
- unusual hours that don't put you on the road during rush hour, such as 10-7
*well, you can always go in at 5 a.m. and get some extra work done, then stay late.
- bike lockers or a secure indoor bikepark are available, or you're allowed to bring your bike inside
*I can bring my folding bike anywhere; the office does have enough space for my velomobile, too, but then there's not much left for me.
- shower facilities and lockers are available
*my office locks, but no showers.
- liberal dress code, or no dress code. business casual and you don't have to "walk in suited up"
*I can change in my office.

*we just visited the Netherlands, where there are separate bike highways along the intercity roads. Many of the traffic signals have special sensors for approaching bikes, and in some areas they turn the lights green just as you get to the intersection so that you have priority over the cars. In other areas, they don't give you that much advantage, but at least they respond to cyclists. Everybody seems to be cycling.
