Commuting Game...

So, I want to start a commuting game of some sort. It's mostly just spotting annoying drivers, but I'd like some feedback/advice from other commuters on how to score it.

My thinking is this: have a score list of driver offenses, and keep score as you see them.

For example, like:
- 1 point for: driver talking on a cell phone
- 2 points for: vehicle parked in a bike lane
- 3 points for: police officer driving while talking on a cell phone

Other scoring possiblities:
- Driver not signalling before turning in front of you
- Vehicle not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign
- Drivers honking/yelling at you (bonus points for what is said: get on the sidewalk, reference to Lance, etc)
- Vehicle speeding past to turn right/left in front of you
- Vehicle annoyingly stopping at a stop sign when it's not their turn to stop, forcing you to stop
- Pedestrian coming within 3 feet of walking into you while jaywalking
- Getting doored/coming within 2 feet (or so) of getting doored)
- Having garbage thrown at/near you

There probably shouldn't be TOO many scoring things, as it's hard to remember and keep track while riding.

Now, I commute in the city, so I'd like to have things to see that more rural commuters would see often as well and figure out fair scoring. We can track records for areas with most/points per mile, most total points, etc.

Also, the game needs a fun name. I can't think of anything clever with "commute" in the title.

Thoughts?

Can I get +1 point for "dodging horse poop on bike trail"?

/ Some jacka$$ let his horse leave a pile on the SRT the other day.

Oh, horse poop should be more than one point, especially if you're within 50 miles of a major city! I'd say 3 points, 2 if that city has a calvary division in the PD.

How about 5 points for a cop turning w/o using his blinker, or pulling a random sloooow u-turn in the middle of the road.

I don't even think cops in Arlington County even have blinkers on their cruisers; they sure as hell never use them.

My game would be more like this:

0 points
---------

- driver talking on cell phone: if they can talk and drive competently at the same time, let 'em yak away.
- pedestrians coming within 3 feet of you while jaywalking: 3 feet is plenty of space, and there is no "jaywalking" in Ontario according to some people who should know - peds can go anywhere they want so long as they don't interfere with lawful actions of other road users.
- people trying to wave you through at stop signs etc.: At least they are trying to be nice. Just smile and wave back.
- vehicle not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign: that's often an overkill anyway. Do you always do that?

1 point
-------

- vehicle parked in a bike lane: that might show that the driver is an a$$ with no respect for bikers, but it actually doesn't annoy me at all. It is easy to merge in and out of bike lanes and other cagers actually seem to understand that you have to do that and give you no trouble.

3 points
--------

- getting (near-)doored: Dooring can be very bad... but you should keep out of the door zone anyway, right?

5 points
--------
- Driver not signalling before turning in front of you: Very annoying.

8 points
--------

- Vehicle speeding past to turn right/left in front of you: Even more annoying.

100 points
----------

- Drivers honking/yelling at you (bonus points for what is said: get on the sidewalk, reference to Lance, etc): A$$holes. Public whipping is in order (100 lashes min).

1000 points
-----------

- Buzzing: Flaming sh!ts ought to be shot on sight.

- Having garbage thrown at/near you: Never had this happen to me, but if it ever does... farewell, poor cager, I'll visit your grave annually to place some fresh garbage on the tombstone...

Only on Critical Mass, unless you work at a brewery and they let you arrive to work drunk. Or maybe if you drink on the way home.

How about dodging horse poop in the bike lane in downtown beaverton (decent sized city)? I have never seen horses riding out there and the poo wasn't there at 6pm the night before.

How bout getting buzzed by a female cop, then yelled at by the cop with her female significant other in the cop car and then reporting the cop to internal affairs for harrassment and unauthorized use of the siren?

How much for a broken down vehicle with a bike on it and the driver waiting for someone to help them get somewhere?

I think I'd get too distracted counting all that and I'd get a buffer overflow from the score going to high.

Well, I was thinking of getting one of those hand counters they use at races. You just memorize the points and give it the right number of clicks.

Like one of these.

I would expect that the NYC people would have all the high scores.

I was originally thinking that cops would be their own category, but I think cops should be a multiplier, x3 at least. So just multiply the score of the offense by the cop multiplier. Maybe there'd be stacking somehow...so

getting buzzed - 5
driver on his cell phone - 2
being cut off to pull over in front of you - 3
pulling over in the bike lane - 2
without using the signal - 1
and then almost dooring you - 3
done by a cop - 3x
TOTAL: 16
STACK BONUS: 7 (# of things in single event, must be 2 or more to get bonus)
SUB-TOTAL: 23
cop multiplier: 23x3 = 69

That would be a nice score, but 69 clicks would take a while. Hmm. Need to work out a better way to keep score.

5 extra points on top of whatever it's worth if you can keep from falling off your ride from laughing at that.
