Professional looking panniers
Hey all,
I am new to the forum and relatively new to commuting via bicycle. I have read many of the posts that discuss the advantages of panniers over messenger bags; however, when I view the links for the different panniers, they look like they are more for touring than commuting.
I am not looking for something "fashionable" as I am truly a believer in function over fashion, but I do need to have something presentable for the workplace as I am fortunate enough to keep my bicycle in my office. I thank you in advance for your suggestions.

Ditto the samurai. I haven't seen it in person either, but it looks really sleek in the pictures I have seen. And as an arkel bug owner, I can attest to the quality of their products.

milk crates? a the commuter bike isnt sexy after being strung up by many locks to keep it from being stolen and then invest your money in a ornate covering?

- They use 1000D waterproof fabric, i've had them in pretty harsh rain and didn't seem to get anything inside wet
- The top zippers allow access for the bulk of your contents, this can be flapped over and secured with velcro so water doesnt get in the zip. The flaps also mean you can expand your volume by riding with them up. The side zippers make for easy access to objects at the bottom of your bag, they also help if you're using it as a shoulder bag - you can just kinda whip your hand through to grab something.

What I would really like to see is a pannier set similar to those on motorcycles only smaller. I've been rooting around and have come up with a hard sided trunk suitable for bikes, but not the panniers.
Here is what I would like to see and am working to create/invent:
*Matching hard sided panniers and rack trunk.
*just big enough for laptop on one side and misc gear on the other.
*Thin [Ortlieb hard sided panniers are too big]
*Waterproof
*Key Locks on Panniers and Trunk
*Easily Removable from rack but with Key Lock
*Built in High Power LED tail lights in trunk
Anyone have any other Ideas ?
I've fished around and have got everything figured out with the exception of finding the side boxes in the right size. Haven't given up yet, but am having a hard time with that one.

check out Ortileb - they have a couple hardcases - one in particular makes a sweet looking briefcase.

Ortleib and Carradice both make pretty functional and understated stuff, but I'm not sure I understand the "problem" here. Are you looking for a bag you can show up to a business meeting with or just something to get your stuff to work in?

thank you all for your feedback. In response to the last question, my bicycle will be sitting in my office in a professional work environment, therefore, I was hoping to get feedback on panniers that looked a bit more professional and less like I am leaving work early for a camping trip.
