    New longer commute

So... we got everything moved to the new place, and I rode in for the first time this morning (Took yesterday off to finish the move)

The route I took in this morning was 14.4 miles (about 6 miles further than the old commute), but I took a longer way than I had to... I'll try the shorter route tomorrow (should shave at least a mile off that).

The ride in isn't going to be too bad, but the ride home is gonna be tough for a bit... it's mostly downhill on the way to work, so uphill on the way home. The old route had 400 feet of elevation difference start to finish... haven't checked yet, but the new one is probably double that.

Not sure, but I think I'm going to ride my bike downtown and take the bus home... I'm SO sore from the move.... I have aches on muscles I didn't even know existed!

That sounds like the perfect length.
Where are you riding from and to? Roughly.....I'm not attempting to stalk you

I'm living near Red Rocks Community College, and going to I-70 and Brighton Blvd.

Once I figure out the route I want, I'll post it for ya.

I haven't gotten out to ride outside of Denver yet, but I want to... I love the mountains. I grew up in the mountains in Arizona, and rode thousands of miles on roads and trails. GORGEOUS!

Hopefully I'll be able to get in a few short tours a little later this summer

Same here. I've been swamped at work and busily remodeling a bathroom. I hope to have the bathroom finished soon so I can try a few mountain rides. Next year I hope to be on one of the long organized tours like ride the rockies.

You are fairly screwed given your southern location (assumption being you are around 6th and Indiana). There are a few quick routes on dangerous streets and a couple long routes on safer streets/path.

It would almost be better to live in golden and take the 32/26/23 route. Something like 14 miles city to city.

So.. anyway. Let's try this again.

I don't think I'm 'screwed' .... there are several fairly easy routes...

My old route was from 13th and Ammons, East on 14th to about Fenton, head North to 17th, then East to Platte River Trail, and north on the trail to 38th, jump off and go about 3 blocks to my work.

From here I can drop south to Alameda, head east along Alameda to Kipling, North to the Frontage road, East to Garrison, and North to 14th, which puts me on my old route. Alameda has a bike path along it, as does Kipling.

I could also head east on Alameda to Garrison, then North, and the same, but not sure how Alameda is between Kipling and Garrison.... but it HAS to be better than Alameda to the East of Wadsworth ... yes, I've ridden that stretch all the way from Denver... ONCE. Other than the guy that deliberately ran me off the road, it didn't bother me too much.

The way I came home today was West on 14th, then drop to 13th and the paths and/or neighborhood roads till I hit Quail, then South to the Frontage Road to Union, West on 1st to the Frontage Road, and on to home.

I don't consider the roads around here overly dangerous, and most of the bigger ones have paths to the side that you're allowed to ride on, you just have to watch the intersections.

I've lived around this area for almost 3 years now... in fact, I'm only about 3/4 of a mile further West from where I originally lived when I first got to Colorado! I like it over here.

12.74 miles, 18 mph Avg speed. The route has 700ft of elevation drop from beginning to end, pretty minor hills to climb (the biggest is RIGHT before I get to work)

The trip home is gonna be the killer.

14 miles is my commute, and it's perfect.
