new mtn bike fork
Is there a consensus on whether it's dumb to spring an extra c-note to save a pound using this fork, rather than a steel one, in place of an old suspension fork on a purely urban pavement only mtn bike?

(actually w/ 15% off > $75 and maybe free shipping it may only be ~$70 more than their steel one)

I bought a $40 Tange rigid fork from Pricepoint. Made a difference going from suspension to rigid. Bike's faster and more nimble. And I don't have to worry about abusing it. If I want to save a lb., I just leave the water bottle at home.

Cool, good to hear you like how it came out. The carbon seemed kind of crazy. I will try and hunt around for a $40 steel one; pricepoint seems to be out of those right now.
As much as anything, mostly I want a fork w/ eyelets so I can bolt my front fender stays right down. They are tied to the suspension fork w/ copper wire currently.

l put a kona project two (C$50) on my old mtb when I converted it to a single speed. I have no qualms. If I was riding longer distances, then the carbon may be worth it. I'm not sure I'd by a cheap nashbar one in that instance.

Good luck. Anything more than that it better be made of gold.

Gah... I'm a moron, while the steer-tube length was specified in the ebay auction, it wasn't until I had the bike taken apart that I see that too much was cut off for my frame.
After taking the bike apart and putting it back together, I am getting the beginnings of uncertainty about finding time to get a new fork and put a new headset onto it and the bike. The fork I got (wrong one) had starnut and crown race installed. I suppose w/ a new fork I could take the crown race off the old fork and put it on the new one? But I'd need a new starnut too. Those don't look too intimidating, at least. I should be babbling about this over at the mechanics forum I guess.
