BF meetups?
I had the opportunity to meet up with a fellow BF member and had a blast. Bmclaughlin807 literally kicked my arse
"Hold on... waitup" were common thoughts from today's ride. That and I set a new max speed record of 43mph. eek!
We went for a good ride around the north denver metro \ boulder area of around 70 miles.
I am curious as to how many commuters have joined fellow BF members on recreational rides.
Commuting is a solitary activity. Consequently, riding with someone else was quite a different experience for me. I generally only ride with my son and occasionally my wife.
.
There is this 4 letter word that start with f and ends with t that shall remain unmentioned
Also, one should bring a bike map for an area said rider is not familiar with. <--me

43mph! I finally figured out how to get my used bike's computer to do mph(been to lazy to convert km). but that seams pretty quick.
I wish I had someone with the same interests locally.

I met Pedal Wench at the end of an organized ride a few weeks ago.
I rode with a new BF member yesterday but can't remember what her user name is.

One other lesson that he forgot to mention.... While you're fixing your bike numerous times, and your ride partner is kicked back enjoying a power bar and water... don't forget to eat one yourself!!!!
I didn't realize till I got home that I hadn't eaten anything from about 11 until about 5.
So... despite numerous mechanical issues and one lost headlight, it was a great ride... temps were awesome, sunny and bright, and lots of great scenery!
Can't wait to do it again, but....
Next time I'm bringing a map, and DataJunkie is NOT navigating!

You people are real? I thought this was like one of those online dating services where you just make up all sorts of stories about yourself and what you wished you were like.

I've met / ridden with Ubie a couple of times, slvoid at the '06 Montauk Century, and odemirmen I know in RL, then he joined BF b/c at my behest. I met Rincewind once briefly during the '04 NYC Century. Sprocket Man I've spoken to on the phone when he hooked me up with a superb ride in Hawaii, though we didn't get a chance to meet.

I wondered into a LBS in Atlanta the other day and happened into GT Commuter and Josh, both BF members.
Nice guys, and Josh has a Raleigh One-Way, super sweet ride.

I've met about a dozen BF peeps at various points. I randomly ran into Oboeguy at a stoplight one day & we chatted. I didn't know he was on BF. Later I posted something about my bike in this forum & he 'recognized' me. Funny.
I've met Slvoid, Air, CC Rider, jimbo, zacster, scorer75 on the last NYC Century. Met some others at local organized rides. Everyone I've met has been extremely cool.
The ONE exception would be meeting up with (name not revealed) for a few CP loops. He seemed like a nice enough, older guy. We did a couple of loops at a good pace & it was all cool until we came to a crosswalk on the east side of Central Park.
We had the green light, so we pedalled through after seeing the street was clear. JUST as we were about to hit the crosswalk, 2 young female runners BOLTED into the street right in front of us. We missed them by inches. I swerved to avoid them & yelled "LOOK UP BEFORE YOU CROSS!"
The other guy circled back to the runners to yell at them up close & personal. I heard him scream: "YOU F$%^& BIMBOS!!!! WHO F$^% DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?!?!"
I was kinda shocked & told him I thought he went too far. He just grimaced at me & said "Well, THEY were wrong!!!!" That was the last time we rode together.
Luckily, crazy guy was the exception and not the rule.

Not too many members in my area. "late" rode to my house and did my commute with me the summer before last, but he's the only member I've met personally. "2manybikes" and I have talked about getting together sometime if we're both in Boston or he's in Maine, but it hasn't happened yet.
Meeting other commuters is part of the reason I started my bike commuting group (see sig), but it's been very slow getting off the ground. Many commuters just don't seem interested in meeting others just on that shared interest, I guess.

I noticed a bunch of commuters from Toronto, but I don't think I'd want to meetup for my commute ride - I like the alone time.
I would love, however, to ride recreationally with anyone - I signed up on cyclingcog.net which has a 'ridematching' thing on and seems to be local to Toronto.
Once my wrist is healthy again, I'll be keen to ride with others just to gauge how badly I suck

I see about 6 regulars on my commute. Anyone else here rolling the Sammimish River Trail or 175th in Woodinville (Redmond/Woodinville, WA) between 5:45am and 6:15am?
or
Is there anyone here that commutes on Seattle's east side, on the SRT?

Wasn't there some thread about putting some BF sticker or something on bikes? Or some other identifying mark for BF peeps? Apart from fenders, racks and the blinding death rays some people on these forums call lights ...

I met another BF member on a fun ride a couple months ago. I didn't know he was a BF member until later that day when I posted something about my ride and he responded to it. Small world out there.
