college park to Beltsville bike commuting path

I put this in commuting as I know there are many MD commuters. My bike group is trying to push this path through. We have aquired access through federal land; which was no small feat. We now need to get MD park and planning to fund it. Time is crucial, as the current USDA administration will not be here forever. If they leave we are back to square 1. Monies for projects are being handed out now. Please contact your local reps and MD park and planning. If you need more info email me and I will try to get it to you. This path will be the best(if not the only) way to go N/S through the rte 1 corridor, Beltsville, Laurel, CP etc. It will tie into the College PArk path under the Beltway near Ikea. We also got Ikea and a local developer to pay for part of this trail. Later Charlie

a decent bike route to Laurel would be great (if the paths are designed and maintained to standard of course)... I know the Committee for Transit Alternatives in CP was pushing for this path too.

who do I e-mail?

Post this in your section at the top where it says "Reigonal Discussions" if you want more answers.

UPDATE
who you should email:
Eileen.Nivera@pgparks.com
tell her you want it!
Write a letterhe holds the $$)
Mr. Samuel J. Parker, Jr
Chairman
Prince George's County Planning Board
14741 Governor Oden Bowie Dr
Upper Marlboro, MD 20772

Here's more
This trail will extend from the end of the current trail (Cherry Hill
Rd. and Home Depot) under the beltway through USDA land to Selman
road. Currently there is a trail in Selman park that continues up to Old
Gunpowder rd. They are currently rebuilding Gunpowder rd which
will/should (you never know) include a bike lane north. Eventually,
this will go all the way to Fairland Regional Park. The Patuxent
watershed area has many trails in the works, which will tie into this
system.
Other points: Ikea and a local builder (I'll have to get their name)
have promised some money for this trail. Ikea wants a spur of this
trail to go into their parking lot. The trail will use one of the
existing huge culverts that already pass under the beltway.
Any bike path that crosses a major road is significant to all local
bicyclists. This will be a major north/south route that will connect
N.E. DC, College Park, Hyattsville, Mt. Rainier, Riverdale, Takoma
Park to Beltsville, Laurel, Savage, Columbia and eventually
Baltimore….(one can hope). So we need y'all to email Eileen Nivera
and tell her of it's importance. SOON!! Thanks, Charlie

If you ride the trail North(from College park) cross Cherry Hill Rd. The trail ends here. Just continue north through the woods/weeds following the Paint Branch creek to the base of the beltway. There are 3 or 4 large culverts that can easily accomodate bikes.
