Slvoid, you're chewing up your nine lives too quick man. I calculate you've got 4 more and then you gotta start being more careful. I don't know about bone cracks, but with skin cuts there is a limited number of hours afterwards where one can get stiches.

Many years ago hiking I got a very similar injury - front edge of a sharp cliff face rocks scrapped off the skin and fat down to the bone. Took forever to heal, even 1 year later with heavy exercise it would start to bleed. Now that area (the half snickers bar) is a depression over the front of my shin, the area is darker, almost purple, like a varicoise vein is hiding in there.

I probably isn't good, may cause problems in older age, maybe induce clots or whatever. Probably should have been stitched up right so veins would heal up correctly.

My doctor told me that many hairline fractures do not show up on xrays until they've had about 2 weeks; then the body has started to build up a repair around them and that shows up as a heavier spot on the film.

This was when I went in after 2 weeks with a stress fracture. He confirmed on the xray. My wife had been trying to get me to come in sooner, but the doc said if I had come in sooner he'd have had me come back after 2 weeks anyway for the xray, because it wouldn't have shown anything before then.

at a minimum, keep that nasty jersey away from the wound. You may end up scarred, but prevent infection at all costs. That'll get louder "eeewwww" from the girlies than a smelly jersey.

That jersey is going in the wash! I normally hand wash my stuff but every few weeks dump it in the washer and dryer on high heat momentarily to kill everything in there.

I dumped some iodine and ethanol on it at work, got some johnson and johnson first aid cream on it, and put a bandaid on it, its starting to feel a lot better now. For some reason the johnson and johnson cream is a LOT more soothing than the neosporin stuff I have at home, I'll have to get a couple of tubes on my FSA account.

The real pain's gonna start when the nerves are starting to grow back in, I had that happen on my elbow and hip and it would be like this intense burning sensation that comes out of nowhere.

Gonna take it easy though, I think I've exhausted just about half of my 9 lives.. What the hell am I doing, it's just a commute, it's not worth it.

slvoid: Just make sure the cut doesn't get infected. That would really suck for al ong time.

Did you consider for a split second not trying to avoid the guy and just creaming him? I wonder about that. It probably would have saved you some serious discomfort and put it on him instead, where it belonged.

I wonder what the legal ramifications of that would be?

What happened last time, you went down in the rain didn't you? Had it arguably worse off than I did, I think you broke something.

Considering about 200 lbs of combined mass going 25mph, I probably would've knocked him out cold had I not swerved, which would've required me waiting there for an ambulance, filing a police report, etc etc. At least I only got to work 5 minutes later.

Then again, a few years ago, a young woman was killed when she swerved to avoid a jogger, went into traffic, and got hit by a car...

5 minutes and week or two of healing for someone elses jackass move. 200 lbs??? Were you carrying a 50 lb backpack?

I was serious when I asked. I would seriously consider hitting the pedestrian than swerving into traffic, parked or otherwise. I guess instincts kind of take over at that point.

Yeah, if you had clocked him, it would have been worse. @25mph, you must be a hurtin' unit. In the rain, I slowed way down to about 12mph and it still resulted in a "field trip" to the emergency room. Eye contact or not, I trust no cage, or ped.

I know you're serious, considering I weigh 150, + 35lb bike + 20 lb bag, around 205 lbs. It all happened so quickly my first instinct was to swerve out of the way. I mean, no one really wants to hit anyone.
Though for car doors, my policy is, if I can help it, go into the car door as the course of action rather than get thrown into traffic.

I like what you mentioned before. Try and hit the driver getting out of the car with your body to protect yourself from hitting the door.

It happened this morning. That's why I'm always more visible at night than during the day...

Take it easy and get better.

Getting checked out wouldn't hurt.

Seems like it just keeps getting worse out there.

So how are you the day after? I just checked the bruise on my hip from getting hit by the car on Sunday: Man, that's a big purple thing. The elbow/forearm is still taking its time ripening. Should be at its grossest right in time for trick or treating this weekend....

Yesterday, felt fine, actually, didn't feel anything at all when I got to work. Going home, it was one of the fastest commutes I ever did, felt great. Every few days after riding home I'd hit the gym for another hour on the elliptical and run for an hour. I felt like I could do twice that, if not more if not for the big juicy steak my gf bought home.

This morning... yaaarrrrgggg my back... shoulders.. leg... it was like a case of living rigor mortis. Took a hot shower, rode to work despite all common sense and logic (yet again), I can barely lift my arm up to do the "HEIL!" (not that I do that a lot at work, its just the motion); especially my left side.

The human body is not meant to absorb the kinetic energy of 200 lbs going 25mph on 5 hours of sleep a night. I need more sleep. And valium.. That'll do it.

It's probably all the adrenaline your system dumped after the accident. What you need is another accident for more adrenaline.
