Won $50 for bike commuting!
We have this program in my metro area called "Smart Commute Challenge" that encourages people to carpool, ride the bus, bike commute, etc. They have an annual challenge when they try to get people to pledge to use some sort of alternative transportation that saves energy during the month of May. I initially started bike commuting 2 years ago as part of their challenge, and signed up again this spring since I typically bike commute 3-4 days a week. As part of the program, they do a random drawing of participants to award prizes at the end of the month, and I just found out that I won $50. Chalk up another one for bike commuting! I already save at least $50 a month just from gas savings due to bike commuting, but a little extra cash is always appreciated.

Sweet! Any idea who's behind this and whether it would be possible to get started in other NC cities?

I think it's run by the triangle transit groups.

I sign up, but I'm not helping their stats since I don't change my commuting habits during the program.
I tried to get my company to sign up for their emergency ride home program and they couldn't even be bothered. It's free for christ sakes.
