Arrghhhh! FedEx delay....

I just bought a new bike to set up as a light/fast commuter, and scored a really good deal on a bike from a shop near Rochester, NY. They did a stellar job of getting it out the door (even with the HUGE snowstorm), and FedEx was good about getting it down hear to the DC area......and I was really excited to see that it was "Out for Delivery" at 7:15AM this morning - I've been waiting all day for it to arrive...but then I saw this at 7:45PM:

Feb 9, 2007 7:30 PM
Delivery exception
ALEXANDRIA, VA
Delivery delayed, scheduled for next business day

7:15 AM
On FedEx vehicle for delivery
ALEXANDRIA, VA

4:44 AM

HAGERSTOWN, MD

Feb 8, 2007 8:05 PM
Arrived at FedEx location
HAGERSTOWN, MD

12:15 PM
Departed FedEx location
SYRACUSE, NY

7:11 AM
Arrived at FedEx location
SYRACUSE, NY

3:45 AM
Left origin
WEST HENRIETTA, NY

Feb 7, 2007 8:31 PM
Arrived at FedEx location
WEST HENRIETTA, NY

3:15 PM
Picked up
WEST HENRIETTA, NY

7:13 AM
Package data transmitted to FedEx
VICTOR, NY

Everything was going great until then - now I probably have to wait until Monday evening to get the bike......

I had the same problem last week when I got my new bike from Ibex. I ordered the bike on tuesday, it was shipped on Wednesday. In my town on thursday ready for delivery. Then that afternoon, delivery delayed for next business day. I called to ask what happened and they said they put it on the wrong truck. Friday comes around, and I am waiting all day at home. Then I see on my computer tracking, "Package Delivered." I am like what? I havent received my bike yet. So I call FedEx and the file a claim for the driver but said it would delay it another day. I was furious. So I call back to see if I could get transfered to the local FedEx hub. Finally I get to talk to the local delivery manager and he is finally able to get a hold of the driver. He scanned the wrong package by accident. So I had to drive across town to find the driver and pick up my package.

Word of advice. Dont use FedEx or USPS unless you have to. UPS is the way to go!!

Don't sweat the small stuff.

Can't you just go down to the local FedEx depot and pick it up?
(if you have a way to get it home from there, that is)

Agree with dobber that we should not sweat the small stuff, but being as I like to get bike stuff, I obsessively track all Nashbar, eBay, Performance, REI etc. deliveries. Not a big deal that you'll have to wait until monday, but you're excitied. I understand.

It's here! It's here! Even though FedEx said that it wouldn't be delivered until TUESDAY (FedEx Ground supposedly only delivers to home addresses Tues-Friday), I called the house while I was out, and my wife said - "Your bike is here." - I sprinted home immediately, and I'm busily going through the box, inspecting and assembling....

Can't say as I blame you...or them either. Weather has been a ***** and a lot of stuff isn't getting where it was supposed to.

Gives you something to look forward to on Monday though.

It's an '06 Jake the Snake.....I got an awesome price for it, and although it wasn't local, it's from a real LBS. (just not local to me). I don't have my pics uploaded yet (still assembling), but here's basically what it looks like:

Tomorrow I'll pick up the fenders, bottle cages, rack and get a basic lighting setup on it. Don't know when I'll change the tires over, but I'll probably go with 28mm or 32mm slicks....
