I'm afraid to see what's left in the road when the snow banks melt. I found a remote control on the side of the road today.

Yah it hit 50 here in KC today, it's 42 right now, I hit the grocery store on my bike with just long pants and a long sleeve shirt. Not bad for a 1:00 AM grocery run considering Friday's morning commute was 3 degrees and friday night was 12 degrees with snow!

Nine degrees (F) here this morning. Supposed to get into the 20s this afternoon, though. Could get over freezing tomorrow. Break out the palm trees and hula skirts!

I actually thought global warming was responsible for our wild temperature swings and weather patterns.

Man, I was freezing last night - our home doesn't have either heating OR cooling. Whatever the temperature, that is what it is. Instead of just a sheet, we had a bedspread and a polarfleece blanket. In the morning, I had on a polar fleece jacket too while having my coffee.

It had to be about 60 F!

I don't have to leave for another hour and it'll be in the mid 50's then. But I'll have to fight 25 mph winds all day, but it's worth it.

22F taking off this morning and mid 30s expected for the ride home today! 40s by mid week. Our bitter cold spell just snapped over the weekend here in MN, and the roads are in great shape due to lack of snow. I put slicks on my MTB and changed the SS gear ratio. I literally flew on the way in today. The bike was fast; I felt faster.

This is my first year commuting through the winter and I absolutely loved it. No joke, winter commuting kept me in shape for the upcoming Spring races.

yeah, sorry. i remember you saying that your productivity skyrocketed though. i actually changed my password to something i'd never remember and then deleted the email a couple of weeks ago so i could get some work done. i was actually off BF for 10 days...which was pretty good self control. i got so much done at work.

of course, i soon re-re-set my password and i'm back on all the time and getting no work done.

This was my first winter, too. Although I took 2 weeks off during the big cold snap, I'm still stronger for it. I had a problem with the rear valve stem on my winter bike today, which is an internal hub and a PITA to change, so I took my other bike. Going from studded tires to road tires is like ice skating vs. rollerblading on gravel!

42 F in Cleveland this morning. Quite a welcome change! I'm sure its on your way to NYC.

That said, when I dismounted I noticed my bike looked like a salt stick . Ugly.

I'm taking it easy now. We had 17 inches of snow last week, and it's piled up everywhere. Traffic lanes are tighter and the intersections don't have the visibility they usually do. The MUP has some snow, and it's tough, too.

I didn't bike in at all last week and I'm glad of it. I would have been tempted and likely have tried on one or two of the days. However, I was in Albuquerque, NM, on business all week.

I'd love to live out west. The weather is nice and the lanes wide. It looked like a good spot to bike around, with mountains nearby for some good workouts. They still get some snow (got 3 inches on Tuesday night), so it can't be that hot in the summer.

My rental car was a 4x4 Dodge truck, and I had a lot of fun driving up to Sandia Peak, where I skied one day. That drive was an adventure--they did't plow much and had about 2 feet of fresh snow up there. It was like a 4x4 drive I had last summer in some sand dunes in western Michigan! Awesome.

Man, don't do what I did and let your enthusiasm about riding in awesome weather compromise your sense of caution... I almost skidded out in some ice this morning right by the brooklyn side of the manhattan bridge. There's still tons of ice, snow, and slush everywhere that's just waiting to down some lighthearted cyclists.
