Windy NYC.

25-30mph gusting to 40mph for the next 2 days.
Enjoy!

Si. 03-05-07 07:20 AM

That's a gentle breeze by our standards ;)

NeezyDeezy 03-05-07 10:27 AM

I didn't dress properly this morning. Although, at least it warned me that tomorrow's weather will be even crazier - well below zero with the wind! It's back to the full balaclava and extra layers tomorrow...

unkchunk 03-05-07 11:50 AM

We had that last Friday. You're gonna love what comes next. White out snow with more high winds followed by mild calm sunny skies. Here's the tricky part. It will alternate back and forth every 15 minutes all day long. When it's sunny, there won't be a hint that it was snowing a few minutes earlier and vice versa. Try dressing for that.

Yeah, I just pulled all the packing tape of my helmet holes on Saturday. Man what a lovely day. Mother Nature's all "hey, remember t-shirts, warm sun, and ladies in short dresses? PSYCH!!" Guess I can wait a few more weeks.

+1 to that.

They don't call it the windy city for nothin!

BigMacFU 03-05-07 06:22 PM

Queensborough bridge was fun today, ride home was definitely worse heading back north.

While it didn't happen to me today, there are times when I've had to pedal downhill into Manhattan on that bridge...

Enjoy!

That's what we call a nice day in March here (though this week looks beautiful).
I'm just waiting for the dust storms to start...

newbojeff 03-05-07 08:19 PM

JUST a little bit of a headwind coming home tonight...holy cow.

Benton 03-05-07 08:38 PM

Gusty in CT. I got a couple of blasts from the side I have to watch my line.

evancds 03-05-07 09:18 PM

Tommorrow should be fun, same wind at 15 F. My toes feel cold already.

slvoid 03-05-07 09:34 PM

Come on, it'll be fun.

What you're describing is lake effect. They don't get that downstate. Here in Rah-cha-cha, that's just the way things are most of the time. One learns to basically ignore the weather forecast becasue it will simultaneously be right and wrong. Hmmm... Sounds like quantum weather. Equal chance of nasty and nice until observed...

Fuzzydave 03-06-07 02:20 PM

Ugh, at some points this morning, I thinK I was actually going slower downhill. This afternoon has warmed up to 30 and tomorrow is a day off the bike, with a trip to the dentist and snow all day (reportedly)

I somehow managed to LOSE my balaclava a couple weeks back. I thought 'well, I'm done with that for the season anyway...'

Today's ride home pretty much had me at the limit. I know it was a mild winter, but I'm already done with the cold.

gwhalin 03-06-07 10:21 PM

I actually had a front tire blow out going up the Manhattan bridge tonight. Never did find out what punctured the tube. My fingers were numb and without feeling prior to completing the tube swap. First blowout this year and it has to be on one of the more miserable commutes.

slvoid 03-06-07 10:24 PM

How'd you get home?

gwhalin 03-07-07 06:57 AM

Changed the tube in the dark and the wind on the bridge. Luckily I had a spare, though I wasted a good 10 minutes trying (and failing) to find whatever it was that punctured the tire in my tire.

NeezyDeezy 03-07-07 07:46 AM

For those who haven't gone out yet, there was a good bit of slippery ice on the manhattan bridge this morning (7:15 a.m.) Just a heads up.

timmhaan 03-07-07 07:50 AM

is the manhattan bridge bike path open yet? i've been using the brooklyn bridge for a while now, but i'd perfer going back to the manhattan.

gwhalin 03-07-07 08:24 AM

Nope, still only the south side is open. They are opening the north side in October.
