Whats 12 minutes?
Having timed my drive into work all week and my commute in today, I discovered that riding my bike takes me only 12 minutes more than my average drive time. Not too shabby.

I normaly take the bus to work in the morning with my bike attached. I forgot my bus pass the other day and had to ride in. Turns out the 23 miles is 30 minutes longer. It's even a closer margin if there is traffic.

yesterday I got caught in rush hour traffic and it took me almost 30 minutes to get home. I could have biked home in that amount of time! (5 miles)

I've got 13 miles to go and it takes me about 45 minutes on a bike. 35 minutes by car due to traffic and lights.

My commute takes about 15 min. to work, 25 min. from work by bike... by car, it's a 7 minute drive to work, and about a 40 minute drive from work b/c of rush hour traffic (I work in Downtown Cincinnati).

morning drive: 10 min
morning bike: 27 min
evening drive: 25 min
evening bike: 25 min
so less than 20 minutes extra a day gets me almost an hour of biking, AND no need to sit in my car

I added about 15 minutes or so to my 7.5 mile commute versus driving. I stopped timing long ago, now I slow down & enjoy the ride.

10 miles to work when I drive. Traffic, Jams, lights = 30 minutes
11 miles to work when I bike. Push, pain, push, coast = 45 minutes
30 minutes of stress vs 45 minutes of pained relaxation, I'll take the pain.

my commute takes 30 minutes drive time plus almost 5 to 10 minutes walk from the parking lot closest to my building.
By bike it takes me 45-55 minutes, plus 10 to 15 to clean up and change to be ready for work.
Small enough difference for me to deal with 3 times a week

25 minutes by car, 50 minutes by bike, 45 minutes by public transport with walking between access points, for a 11.0 mile commute (vc) each way. i stop with school-busses, don't run traffic red lights, etc. i feel better, more alive moving by bike; it makes my day (often the best parts of my working day)!

12 minutes to the train, 35 minutes on it. or 60 minutes driving and my will to live plus my love for the world. So the bike wins hands down.

My route is 10.5 miles, mostly rural on 50 MPH roads. 20 min car, 35 to 45 minutes on bike depending on weather & road conditions.

My most direct route by car is about 21-22 miles, but I usually go a longer way that has a higher speed. Usually it takes about 45-50 minutes. If I take the most direct way, it takes about 1 hour or 1:05.
On the bike? Thursday, I did it in 1:18. I've done it as fast as 1:15. Not much more than the car.

12 miles for the shortest route. over half of that is freeway.
15-20 if I drive. 40-45 if I ride and there's no wind.
Now my wife's commute is another story. Once I met her at steps of her office and raced her home. She drove, I biked. I won by a good five minutes. Too bad she hates bikes.
Does anyone have a commute that's faster on a bike than in a car?

car: 10 minutes
bike: 25 minutes, 30 on the return trip
so an extra 35 minutes
all time I would have spent at the gym getting a comparable workout anyway (plus the 10 minutes it would take to drive there from work)
