Conti Contact Security
Hi,
has anyone tried the continental contact security tires. The description on the conti website doesn't exactly "sell" them as a nice tire - supposed to be very flat resistant though. I wondered if they were like Amradillos in feel. Thanks

I dunno, but I ride the sportcontact and it's great. I had Armadillos, I hated them. If these are similar, then I would expect a harsh ride.

Well, I've been using the travel contact tires - I liked them a lot, but too many flats from broken glass (try as I do to avoid glass and debris). How have the sport contacts been for punctures?

My experience is skewed - I ride 90% on clear nice bike lanes. Holland baby
I understand if y'all need tactical assault tires - it ain't easy being cheesy on some of those roads out there.

i have them. they are nice, nothing spectacular though. They are better than the stock Bontrager Select tires that came with my bike. I like the reflective sidewalls, but I've never had much reason to deal w/ flats. There isn't a lot of broken glass or anything on my route.

I use Continential Travel Contacts and have rolled over glass, metal (points up), plastic reflectors, potholes, sharp edged gravel, and sharp broken off curbs and they hold up very well. My flats currently (3100km in) are all internal based as I've not had time to get rim tape and I've holes in my rim tape but I've cardboarded them up and thus the holes have stopped and also used a new tube as well. I like the Contiential Security Contacts I've seen at MEC. That extra treading helps on paved areas it seems for extra grip. I know with my current tires they are useless on damp/wet grass/wood bridges. Only saving grace is the side grip which only gives very little control seeing as the rest of the tire is a baldie.
However the Conti Town & Country IIRC has been reduced in price at MEC now and the new Town & Country tires from the last time I was at MEC IIRC read 80 PSI on the tire as opposed to my old Town & Country tires which are rated to 65 PSI.

My fixed gear had a 700x28 contact on the rear for a while. I hated it, the ride was really uncomfortable and harsh. I felt every tiny crack and piece of debris I rode over. It also wore out quicker than I was happy with, but I'm pretty harsh on my tires. I don't recall getting a flat on this tire though. Ironically I am now rolling on another conti tire, a gatorskin. The price difference was only $4 or 5, and I love the ride of the gatorskin. smooth and buttery.

Well, thanks everyone. I've decided to try the marathon plus tires and ordered them today. People on this forums really seem to like them and you guys are the real deal. Thanks again and ride safe
