Yes! Finally!
Near 60 F this morning, high today forecast near 80 and little chance of rain with calm winds. I decided last night to give the road bike her first commute. No fenders, no big ole Carradice bag, no patrol pants, no jacket, sandals instead of shoes - gawd I've missed summer!
Don't get me wrong, I love my other bikes, but ever since I built this road bike in November, I've been waiting for the weather to get 'right' to ride her to work, rather than just on nice weekend days. Riding to work on the old Bianchi xcross or the Fuji touring bike is nice...but on the road bike I'm not just riding, I'm gliding, flying, soaring like an eagle! 24.6 miles in 1:19, just under a 17mph average - I usually average about 15 on the other bikes. Even the climbs felt effortless and the downhills kicked butt!
SUMMER IS HERE! I don't give a crap what the calendar says, when the weather lets me commute on the road bike in nothing but bibs, a shirt and sandals, it's summer.

Excellent!
It's funny, now that my wife is into 'jacket in the am, long sleeves in the pm', I am fully into 't-shirt all day'.

Oh crud. I'm thinking the same as chip. The world is coming to an end.
I took my tarmac into work this morning. The difference between my touring bike and my tarmac is just like chip said.... like gliding. What a fun ride. I can't wait for work to end and my vacation to start.

Let's put our thinking meld to the test...I am currently appreciating another aspect of summer that I love - the fashion choices of my cute female co-workers. You?

My commute takes me through the Denver University area as well as quite a few parks. So..... hell yes!
I have two attractive coworkers (small office). Both dress conservatively so nothing there. Though one does want to ride into work with me on her road bike. Gee I wonder who will look better in lycra?

Did you see what I did there?
It's a glorious feeling when the winter/bad weather bike goes away and the lighter, faster road bike comes out. Ah, spring.

[QUOTE=Cromulent]How is she going to ride into work with you on her road bike? Get your own road bike!
Did you see what I did there?
When I was 12 years old, riding around the neighborhood with my (almost) girlfriend Carol Ann side saddle on the top bar or handle bars of my old Schwinn cruiser was the finest conversation on earth.
Wonder why I never see any kids doing this now?

I figured someone would come to that conclusion after I hit submit reply.

Funny that you got your road bike out and 2 days ago I got my MTB out instead. Bottom bracket problems with Surly LHT so out came the steel Giant. Actually liked riding my 4 miles in to work more on the MTB than on the LHT - go figure. I think it's the sense of stability from knobby tires, easy clickable gear changes, sitting up high.

Yay for warmer weather. I was finally able to ride into work earlier this week without having to wear tights and a long sleeve UA shirt under my usual cycling clothes.

I see kids doubling, tripling and even quading up on a signal bike all the time. The best was the bmx with a kid riding, one on the foot pegs in the rear, one on the handle bar and a small girl squating on the top tube. I have seen less impressive circus acts. I've also seen several times one on the bars, the rider standing and one sitting on the seat.

Actually the bearings on my commuter gave out after two Cleveland winters, so that wheel is in the shop. My current choice is the track bike or knobbie tired MTB. I guess my recumbent could be fitted with commuting tires but it is no more suited to poor weather than my track bike and currently the tires on my track bike are much tougher.
