Added a rack, now a strange question
The nearby LBS had a nice cargo rack and cut me a deal on it. It's now mounted on my Schwinn and looks good. The owner said it could last as long as the rest of the bike as long as I took care of it and avoided carrying more than 50lbs on it.
Now, here's some background and the strange question:
Our municipal pool has a bring-your-own-chair policy. So, we went and bought two cheap chaise longue type pool chairs. They fold up for storage. The pool is so close that driving to it seems silly. It might be over a mile, but not by much. The ride is mostly flat and has a short stretch on a busy street.
Is it possible to mount those chairs on the rack somehow in order to carry them to the pool? I thought the best idea would be to have one on one side of the bike, and one on the other. They weigh the same, so balance shouldn't be an issue. I'm just not sure how to go about doing it.
It's not a matter of life and death, but it would get my butt on the bike and out of a seat.
I can provide photos and more detail if needed. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you,
-Bill

Bungee and nylon straps can hold anything to a rack

My specialty in the Air Force was tieing down cargo in airplanes. What you want to do is use straps or bungees to fasten the chairs to your bike, and then use other straps or bungees to make those straps or bungees tighter.

You can haul almost anything by bike. As has been mentioned already, it's just a matter of a bit of ingenuity in strapping it down. Bungies are a wonderful invention. Here's a website to get you thinking:
https://www.rideyourbike.com/cargo.html
For a couple lawn chairs, I'd probably try hanging them like a pair of panniers. The guys on the Living Car Free forum have this kind of thing down to a science, you might want to post over there also.
I'm curious to see how this turns out, please post some pics.

I've set up a gallery of photos of the bike and rack as it is right now. They may not be quite good enough as it was dark outside, but I ask that people check them out anyway:

As an aside, I filled the crate up with newspaper and ran it down to the school that has a paper dumpster in the parking lot. Not a bad ride, and seemed more responsible than using the car. Gmaps said it was around .39 miles there and back at 70 calories per trip, and I did a little extra riding when I was done.

Just as an aside, it's .75 miles from my house to the pool. Gmaps said it's a 135 calorie trip. Now you see why I want to know. Driving the car that far would be silly.

We use a child trailer to carry all our stuff when at the beach. That's three chairs, two umbrellas, a video camera, and a backpack full of drinks, towels, and stuff. The chairs bungee to the top of the trailer.

If I can fit a 35# sack of dog chow and 4x 12-packs of soda on my rack, then you can fit 2 beach chairs on yours.
Extra long bungee cords, maybe some old inner tubes for reinforcement... I'm sure it can be done.
