Anyone have any experience w/bikes on Metro-North?
I have to go up to Mamaroneck tonight during Peak fare hours. I was hoping to take my bike but see on the FAQ that bikes aren't permitted during peak hours. I can't wait til after peak hours & peak has already started, so I can't leave early. Anyone know if they're strict about this or not?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Unless things have changed over the past couple years you'll need a bike pass.
I would think enforcement would depend on how crowded is the car your keeping the bike in, if there's room I doubt anyone would care.

I've gotten away with it taking my wheels off, without the pass but my commute was off peak, maybe they thought my bike was a folder since two wheels and a frame look pretty busy, it all depends on the conductor though. Folders are kosher though on/off. The thing that stinks about the pass is you have to get it in grand central, so if your commute is just in westchester you need to find someone to get it for you or schlepp down to NYC.
I've seen dudes with bass violins on the subway and metro north, no rules against them... must have a better lobby. Have thought about carrying the kind of bags they use in Japan for bikes on the train, not much bigger than the hanging wardrobe bags you see some businessmen carry and take up two seats with on the really busy trains at night.

Yep seems you do need a permit. Costs $5 and you can do it in person in GCT or by mail.
