Sunlite Traveller 2 Pannier

Looking for anyone with experience with this bag. I am seriously considering getting it for my first foray into using a rear rack and pannier. Any general comments are appreciated. Also, I am trying to find the size (other than volume which is around 2000 cubic inches) in length and width so I know if it is at least big enough to carry textbooks.

I tried some sunlite's last year. May have been traveller 2. came as a pair. I had heel-strike problems. You can't adjust much front-to-back to avoid heal-strike and they would not stay on my rack. I returned them after one failed maiden voyage. Bag fell off as I left my driveway. If you've got long chainstays and don't mind tweaking the attachments to make the bungie stronger it may work for you. The hooks are short and the bungie is a bit weak, so when i hit a bump, the top of bag jumped up and off the hooks. Again, stronger bungie or supplemental strapping may help. Also, relative to heal-strike, I have a specialized hardrock, chainstays around 425mm i think and blackburn rack and size 8.5 shoes. I gave up on finding cheap, good pannier and currently bungie a backpack to top of rack.

Oh yeah... to answer your other questions books would fit, but bags are relatively lightly built and may not last with heavy books. I'm guessing bags were about 9" wide, 12 high and 3-4 deep.

I've been using the Sunlite panniers for 2 years now and many happy commutes, with no problems. I got them after two sets of Trek panniers experienced catastrophic failure before the round trip was even complete. I needed something fast and the Sunlites were all that were available.

Kept telling myself I'd get nicer bags soon.

Soon hasn't come yet, and they're still holding on strong.

I've also got a pair of the Traveler 2's - so far very pleased with pockets, size and accessability. Bike is a current Novara Big Buzz with Topeak disk rack. My shoe size ~8. Haven't had any real heel-strike issues, but the bag (I only use one regularly) did start to fall off the bike lately. (See this thread.) Basically I tied a knot in the bungee and haven't had an issue with it since. I may eventually upgrade the mounting to the Arkel Hook Kit, but no immediate plans. (Credit to BF for suggestions, btw.)
