What to eat before a morning Commute?

Hey guys and gals, I've been commuting my 22 mile round trip for a Month and a half now and I am loving it. I had a question about what everyone eats before they commute and how fast after eating do they get on the road? I have been eating a bowl of Fiber One in the morning and then hopping on the bike 20 minutes later, but I find myself getting a little nauseous about 5 miles in. If I wait an hour, I have no problem. I rather not get the nausea, but I don't like to dwadle in the morning, so any suggestions?

Nuts and raisins for me. Sometimes a banana or orange. Lots of energy in those foods.

if I had to get up early enough to not get on my bike for an hour, I'm not sure I'd commute

I'm really decent with a banana before I ride, and then some food on the train after my ride is over. (there I can and do wait 1/2 an hour or so)

The fix might be as simple as trying other foods. Your problem may just be that particular cereal, or cereal in general. I eat something different each morning; Cherrios, corn flakes, cracked wheat, oatmeal with raisins, etc. I personally have found that Fiber One starts working on my intestinal tract within 1/2 to one hour as well.

Half a cup of coffee after I get out of the shower, then I eat something (oatmeal or a fruit pie) after I ride the 22.5 miles to work.

Oatmeal with PB mixed in. I wash it down with soy milk, water, or fruit juice.

A glass of water for my 11 mile morning commute. Then I eat some eggs and carbs for breakfast at work. The trick is to eat sensibly during the day and at night. I find myself not needing any extra energy in the morning before the commute.

My commute's only 7 miles each way, so I will just have a drink of water or maybe a bit of juice or soy milk. I make sure I get something more substantial after I get to work, though -- bagel and cream cheese, more soy milk, etc.

You may want to change your cereal. Fiber One has 14 grams of fiber per serving. A bowl is probably more than one serving. I try to eat lots of fiber, too. But, since you start your commute is close to the time you eat the high fiber content maybe pulling fluids into your GI tract causing your issues. These fluids are needed for your muscles.

My commute is 11 miles one way. I don't eat or drink anything before I leave. If I do, like you, I have to wait before I leave.
Even if I feel very hungry before I leave, I just ride. The hungry feeling goes away immediately and doesn't return until well after I arrive at work.

I have a PB&J sandwich after I get to work, with nothing before. It's plenty. I have lunch around 11, and go home 3 or 4 PM, eat then, then one more time before bed. None of them are big meals.

Typically I just have a pop tart or a bagel. Maybe an apple turnover if they've survived the weekend.

Once I get to work I'll have a couple bananas, maybe some granola bars. Or if the mood is right, a breakfast burrito.

And my requisite can of Mt Dew.

11 miles each way for me too.
I scramble one egg with a half cup of egg whites (egg beaters), a couple boca breakfast patties or links, and a slice of dry cinnamon raisin toast and water. Been skipping the OJ recently... to much sugar. Coffee when i get to work.

I'm with Chip's routine... cup of coffee, then hit the road. Once in a while I'll have a muffin if one is laying around. For the most part it's slurp up some coffee and ride.

I'll either eat a special K bar or nothing but some water when i get to work. I've never been a big breakfast person.

Cup of coffee while I cook breakfast (usually oatmeal). Place breakfast and lunch in the bag and hit the raod. 8 miles to the office. There I have a second cup of coffee and breakfast.

I'm with the hungry rider group. Usually I'll slurp on a cup of coffee while I'm packing up to ride. I typically take a PB and honey sandwitch and chocolate soy milk for my recovery snack/breakfast when I get to work. Take a thermos of coffee for the day and I'll usually have a some of that after my snack.
