Anybody use Novara Safari Panniers

Saw these at REI and they looked pretty high quality. Anybody use them? I worry about heel strike, of course, but these look completely element proof and super rugged. Plus the clip system looks pretty neato.

I have the Novara commuting pannier, which has some of the same features that the Safari pannier. Works great for me.

I got a set of the front/small Safari panniers on clearance (I think they are last year's model - grey/orange). I haven't used them that much. I like the clip latch, it seems pretty secure, although when putting them on the stock rack on my Randonee I have to push down fairly hard to get the latch to click into place.

I usually keep a Novara Rack Trunk on my bike and it is difficult to mount both the rack trunk and the safari panniers. It's not a big deal for me, I usually use either the rack trunk or panniers but not both.

I have a different type of novara panniers. Transfer I think.
All in all I have been quite happy with them. I would assume the case would be the same with the safari panniers.
However, at that price I think I would rather go for something from Arkel unless the safari is on sale.

Yep. I picked up a set of the older copper ones(large) a few months back for $94. Once you adjust the mounts to fit your rack they go on and off really easily. Rock solid when mounted and totally waterproof. I used mine to haul "beverages" and ice to a picnic and at the end of the day had to pour all the water out.

Full price they're a bit spendy, but I'm happy with them. Only diff between the current and older ones is the color,so I'd look for the old models to save some dosh.
