I am new to riding, so Have been looking around for some good introductions and inspiration, have you got a favorite site that you look at from time to time for general information, or just for kicks?

Well, c'mon, he sounded as though he didn't know he was on one...if he'd said "other than this one" or something it would have been different. It's kind of like when your brother is sitting at the table at your house with a plate of food in front of him and looks at you and says, "I'm hungry, do you have anything to eat around here?" It's too "duh" a question not to give the "duh" answer of, "You mean, other than what's on the table in front of you?"

And (although I hadn't answered yet) it sounds like most people don't even use other ones, so it's nice that they answered at all instead of just ignoring the question.

I'll let the OP speak for himself, but personally, if I asked a question, I would rather people ignore the thread rather than stating the obvious over and over. And I also don't think it was a dumb question - this is sort of a bad analogy, but: If someone posted a question on Google Questions that read "are there any favorite search engines you guys use just for kicks?", and the response was "google.com...duh!", I don't think that is very helpful, IMHO. In other words, I think it can be reasonably assumed that the OP already knew he was posting in a forum about bike commuting...but, maybe I read too much into it....

Back on topic, there is also www.biketowork.com but it is down right now - personally I didn't find it as interesting as the 2 links I posted earlier, but maybe after the redesign it will have more/better content.

Honestly, while I like the interactive comments on the blogs (including my own - linked in signature), nothing beats the in-your-face discussion and ability to get your questions answered like a good solid forum. This is hands down the most populated english-centric bicycle commuting discussion haven I've found. Blogs like the ones I linked to are cool for a high-level idea of what's going on in the bike industry in relation to bike commuting. Personal blogs are cool just for getting a little inspiration from real life people doing the real life daily commute.

I also must say that having my own blog out there with quite a few regular comment-makers and even more regular readers ups the ante on bike commuting. I always feel challenged to ride every day so that I can post about it. Every trip has something little and unique, so it's not usually posting just the same boring things either. I also like being able to interject what's going on in life outside of my commute, or outside of bicycling entirely. From the comments I get, it seems to be keeping people coming back for more -- and thus, upping my challenge to myself a little as well.

Paul Dorn's Bike Commute Tips site and his blog are both excellent resources.

The BEST resources will probably be local, though. In Vermont, that would be the Vermont Bicycle and Pedestrian Coalition.

As has already been mentioned, CommuteByBike is also okay, but I'll also disclose that I write for that site.

I have a metric crapload of bike/commute blogs I subscribe to via RSS. I'll get some good ideas and lots of inspiration and don't have to read deeply. RSS is your friend; I'm shocked by how few people actually use it. RSS allows me to get inspired by "local" bike commuters who live in locales very different from mine, which I find a positive experience.

Favorites include The MinusCar Project, Commute by Bike, Bike Commutes, and Bike Commute Tips Blog, and Bike Snob NYC but I'll even read the lame-o offerings from Bicycling and the (less lame) Pinch Flat News. As I mentioned, I read blogs of commuters from all over the midwest, the northwest, and the northeast. I'm probably missing some southerners, but I'll find them eventually (KC is midwest, right?). (Oh, and I didn't make them links because I'm lazy and you can google them just as well as I).

But yes, this board takes up much more of my time, for better or worse. Some days, I think it's worse, but so be it.

Yes, KC is midwest, and Ohio doesn't differ too much from my part of the country in terms of climate or terrain.

I use to post quite a bit on Bikespeak, back when it was sort of new, before there was a whole commuter section. ( I wonder if there's any old posters from the old days, who migrated over here?) I have checked out some other sites, before deciding to give this one a try. This one comparatively, seems vastly populated and diverse, which is important, and it's encouraging to be amongst so many who are very serious about bicycle commuting. So far nobody has stepped on my toes and sqwashed 'em yet

Bike Portland often has good info for commuters, even if you don't live in Portland.

I also read Pinch Flat News, which isn't commuting-only but does have commuter/utility biking info.
