If that's with lots of traffic control thrown in the mix, that's not bad at all. That's about what I average, but if I make all the lights, the average will shoot up to near 16 mph. It's amazing how traffic control slows you down.

Eh .. for about two miles I ride thru a wild life preserve on a dirt path..6-8 mph tops..but the view is a hole lot better than whats out the truck window when i drive 
.
So ya my pace isnt whats it's all about at all..as most of ya'll allready know.
Its Like ..a bad ride to work on the bike..beats the HELL out of a good drive in the truck to work anyday..or something to that extent..

Nice job, as others say the ODO is more important (and the MXS/MAX is more fun ) - averages can vary for me dramatically, 3 minutes difference in my 30 min. rides usually means anywhere from 14-17mph average, so I don't really take that into account anymore.

Avg speed is also a function of the kind of bike you're riding and the amount you're carrying with you. I ride a Giant Sedona (Kind of a MTB hybrid -- 26" tires and straight bars) that my friends call The Tank. The bike with all its stuff probably weighs 30-35 pounds all by itself. Add to that my ever-so-sexy 210 pound self and getting an average speed of 12-14 MPH overall is doing pretty well, IMHO.
I get passed all the time, but so what? Well, there was that one 4-year old on the tricycle I passed last week, but she caught me at the light
Keep on it! Be sure to brag about it to all the out-of-shape drivers when you grab your coffee!

I love checking my monthly odometer and my max (downhill!) speed. Those are my two favorite numbers. Well, and the clock, just to make sure I have time to stop for some coffee before work.

I think making it to work alive is the most important metric.
Everything else is secondary...duh.
I change what number I am paying attention to periodically. One week it will be cadence. The next my speed.
As of late with exhausting work shifts I just want to be on my bike. That is enough for me.
