Uh, I guess it's cause I hadn't ridden in quite some time, but now I'm to the point I hardly wobble at all.

Well, if the slang term Fred really does have its roots in the person of Fred A. Birchmore; than I shall continue to wear my Fredliness with a great sense of pride. Any man that can ride a bicycle with a machete in hand has my deepest admiration.

I had to dig this thread up because I kept seeing the word, but not quite following who/what this Fred person was. Now I think I get it:
If you ride halfway across the state with your gear stuffed in wireframe baskets and your drops turned up to give you a more upright position, you may be a Fred.
If you strap a lawn chair to your back rack, a cooler to your front rack, and picnic basket in your grocery bag pannier and bike off to the park, you may be a Fred.
If your "cycling gear" consists of the jeans that already have the cuff chewed by your chain, so you don't have to worry about that happening again...
And if that's a Fred, I may have just learned something about myself.

I know I'm a Fred. I've even made a jersey that says, in big police lettering, "FRED". Cost me $10 and $19 for the jersey. Can't wait until spring to wear it.

Perhaps there are degrees of Fredness. I wear jerseys purely for function, not for appearance. Maybe you're right though - I'm thinkin' a baseball cut shirt with an iron-on Fred...

I proclaim that I am of Fred, for I have sandaled feet.
Yea, do I ride through the shallow valley of the MUP, I shall fear no pothole.
My socks protect and comfort me.
My underpowered lights runneth out of power upon leaving on the evening's commute.
Fred's will be done!
Fred's kingdom come! Whee!

Ahhh yes, classic Fredmobile. Fenders not color co-ordinated, plastic platforms, spoke reflectors, no u-lock mount, bell and fully stretched bungie cord...yep all Fred all the time. Fredliness is next to Godliness. Did you know 'dog' spelled backwords is 'Fred'? The yellow grocery bag shoecovers are a nice touch, too. All in all a Fredmobile worthy of printing and hanging in ones bike room. Thanks for sharing it.
