Specialized Sirrus v. Trek FX
I found good deals on both a 2007 Specialized Sirrus Comp and a 2007 Trek FX 7.6, and I'm trying to decide which to buy. I want it to commute to work and back two or three times a week - about 10 miles each way.
Unfortunately, the bikes are at different bike shops so I can't ride them back to back, but both felt pretty comfortable. Has anyone heard anything about these two bikes? Which would you choose for a fast commuter?

Thanks

Looking at the geometry, I think I'd rather have the shorter wheelbase and the steeper angles of the Specialized. The ~106cm wheelbase and 71.5º head tube angle of the Trek is almost like a touring bike. The Specialized geometry comes much closer to my most favorite cross bike.
Looking at the parts spec, I think I'd rather have the compact double and the wheels on the Trek. My doubles have always shifted much better than my triples and a 36-26 gear is plenty to get me up the final 4-6% grade hill on my commute with 20-30 lbs. of gear.

Important note: The Sirrus is basically a lower-end Roubaix frame. So the geometry is comparable to Specialized's version of a "touring" frame... more like a long haul race frame.
I don't know if that helps your decision.
full disclosure: I work for a bike shop that sells Specialized. As such, my experience w/ Trek is limited.

They look pretty similar to me. Looks like the Trek has slightly better components and a higher top gear (11T vs 12T).
I'd choose the one in the best color.

I like both bikes. I've test ridden both of them. For my money though, I'd go with the Trek. I thought it was more for the money and I liked the comfort of the ride. That said, I chose neither because it turns out drop bars are much more comfortable than I thought they would be. I bought a nice Fuji road bike and outfitted it with fenders, lights and a rack.

I have a Sirrus from a couple of years ago (just the plain version, not the Comp) that I used as a commuter (it is in semi-retirement right now). I was extremely pleased with it and it did well by me rain or shine commuting year round. My one major complaint was that the front derailer was mounted in such a way that I couldn't put full fenders on it.
