Wind!!!

Current forecast:

Wind 38 mph WSW, gusting to 39mph

General direction of my commute home, ENE

Marrock 11-29-07 01:05 PM

Rig a sail and tack.

Update:
It's dropped 10mph so far, I hope this trend doesn't continue, I was looking forward to pushing along like I hadn't just put my studded tires on.

Definitely a day for the indoor trainer.

No, no, no... That's a TAILWIND. :p

Although we live in the same neighborhood, unfortunately for me, I work on the other side of the city from Squegeeboo. So that made it a headwind for me to get home. About an hour ago when I got home, TWC said 25-30mph sustained, gusts to 40. And it's a modest upgrade. Thank heavens for granny rings.

Riding against the wind is depressing. I'm trying to tell myself it only makes me stronger.

TRUMPHENT 11-29-07 06:51 PM

A couple of months ago, Tropical Storm Noel passed by Miami. One morning, I headed due east to hit the busway mup that goes E NE. New sensation. It felt as if a giant vacuum cleaner was right on my tail. I could feel the headwind to my front and this other force pulling me back from behind. Weird! I never experienced that before.

That lasted almost the entire week. Getting to work was work. Going home was a blast and a half.

Does this strike anyone else as odd? A "gust" that's 1 mph greater than the prevailing wind speed?

Just means that it's a good, steady wind... the kind you like to have on your tail, not as a headwind!

Yep, I was against the wind going home too. I didn't have to resort to the granny gear, but man was I sore when I got home. Added about 20 minutes to my normal 50 minute commute.

I heard on the news this morning that gusts were up to 50 mph, not 39.

It seems like I've only been getting headwinds recently, the kinds that make you audibly yell in frustration when going up a hill. It seems like no one else notices the wind tho.....that only adds to the frustration
