Light & Motion ARC

I've had my NiMH-powered ARC HID setup for a bit over a year. No problems with it until yesterday on the way home from work. The wire insulation wore away at the lamp housing, and the two wires shorted together killing the lamp.

I called L&M today and asked about sending the lamp in for repair. My light is just out of warranty. I was told that it would be covered under warranty since it shouldn't happen. I'm bummed I have no light, but pleased they are covering it.

I purchased another one with Li-ion Ultra battery in the mean time .

You'll like how small and light the Li-Ion battery is. Mine fits under my stem, even . That and with the smart charger you just plug the charger into the battery and forget about it.

I've got the smart charger, which is nice. I believe the lithium-ion ultra battery is the same size as the NiMH, but run time is 5 hours versus 3 for NiMH.

Hmm, glad they're taking care of you. I've had my NiMH ARC for a few months now. I just noticed that the there is a tear in the outer insulation where it comes out the boot on the back of the light. I wrapped some electrical tape around it. Hope the wires don't eventually short out.

I'm guessing yours wore through the outer and then the wire insulation? I wonder if I should tell them at least to document it. I don't want to have to send it in yet! It does get tugged on a little bit sometimes while wearing it on my helmet. They were good to me and sent me a courtesy helmet-mount when I broke mine 15 minutes after opening the box.

If it's been a year you might as well get the light bulb replaced at the same time. Just a suggestion seeing that your light is a year old. This all depends on how much use you put on your ARC. If it was every day or 5 days a week I would.

The outer black sheath ends before it goes through the housing, which is part of the problem IMO. It wore through each red and black wire insulation, and I think it was due to a zip tie on the inside of the light housing. I would advise pulling the boot out and seeing if there is any damage.

Good idea about replacing the bulb. I'll give them a call tomorrow.
