smelly head

Sometimes these days the shower in work is unavailable for a few different reasons and i find that the only part of me that gets real sweaty and smelly is my hair.

Do any of you guys suffer from this and if so does anyone know of any product that in effect do a dry wash of the hair and remove the odour....

any advice wold be great thanks

What's this "hair" of which you speak?

CliftonGK1 12-12-07 03:01 PM

My solution is to comb my hair with a bic razor.

try using hair refreshers, there are several on the market. they seem to work pretty well for women who don't want to overdry their locks by washing them every day.

I'm not sure it would be a good idea, but rubbing alcohol or hand sanitizer (whose active ingredient is alcohol) would kill odor-causing bacteria.

rubbing alcohol will lead to dry and flakey scalp in a jiffy and strip your hair of moisture too. you need to consult a female here.;)

An urban myth so I am told.

*rubs his shiny scalp*

Hit the store and get a bottle of witch hazel, it's not exactly dry but it does dry fast and it kills the stink.

Just rub it in and towel it off.

Start off by buying a clipper set for $20, put on the 1/2" guard and buzzing your hair. Take the $20 every couple of months you're not spending at the barber and buy bike toys.

or alternatively... get married, have children, and loose your hair.

- just use this!

p.s. for you roadies: no, it's not accurate enough for a taco chip clip...

Have you tried washing your helmet lately? :) I've found that a stinky helmet and gloves transfers easily to your head and hands.

edgell22 12-12-07 08:12 PM

They make a waterless shampoo. We use it at the hospital where I work. Not sure if you can buy it in a store though.

Alfster 12-12-07 08:18 PM

There are leave-in conditioners that will mask any smells.

I agree with ronzorini that you should probably clean or replace your helmet. BTW, you may not be able to smell any funk in your helmet until it gets wet for an extended period of time. You might want to try a dissinfectant spray.

Exactly what I did. I had long hair, then spiky hair, and honestly it was just so damned inconvenient...one summer I just figured I'll chop it all off, and if I look like a ****er, it will grow back in quickly. Best thing I've ever done. No more hair product to pay for, no more helmet hair, no more trips to the barber, just a one-time purchase of clippers and THAT'S IT.

I couldn't resist a song...

From Phoebe on the show friends...

In leau of: smelly cat, smelly cat

Smelly head, smelly head...

I know this doesn't help anything, but it's been stuck in my head all day. Which, sadly has been the high point of my day...

Wash your hair at the sink.

I second this suggestion, I noticed significant improvements when I started doing this years ago.

rlrct 12-13-07 06:02 AM

If the shower isn't available, what's to prevent you from washing it in a sink? As long as you don't have those auto-shutoff faucets that you need to hold down to get water, even a bathroom sink would work to wash your hair.

RT 12-13-07 06:12 AM

What exactly is the stink? Is it your head only? How long has it been going on? What's your diet like? I shower before the morning commute (washing hair too), wash my hair when I get to work, and have never had an issue.

These are commercially available in most drug stores or orthopedic supply stores. They are not a great every day solution but they are perfect for once in a while.
