one month, about 200 miles on my new bike.
Hello everyone,
So it's been about one month and about 200 miles into my new Specialized Globe 6 IG8. Just an update on how it's going.

In a previous post, I told you about all the things I bought for the bike. The above photos pretty much show the pedals, lights, shoes and trunk bag.
So far, I really like the bike. It's a bit heavy, but I'm learning to take my time going to work. It's 45-50 minutes each way. Even though the bike has no suspension systems, it rides smooth and I'm finding the gears 5 and 4 make up most of my ride. I like the internal 8 gear hub. The generator light is bright enough to light up the street ahead of me while the Cateye blinks towards the distance. I like the rear constant bright red light (generator) and I use a blinking red light above it.
The bike is quiet. No rattles or weird noises. Very solid feeling. The tires are good on wet streets and the brakes are good, however the pads do leave a black mark on my rims.
People comment on how old-school the bike looks. Everyone likes the basic black colour scheme and how the Axiom trunk bag looks good with it. The little fold down panniers have come in handy a few times.
People at work are getting used to me arriving by bike and some clients have complimented me on riding to work.
I rode to work 4 days this past week. It feels great.

You will find excuses to ride to work 5 days a week soon. Then, you will be searching for bars that drop and can accept your internal rear hub shifters. Then, you will start shopping for the bibs. It's a slippery slope. You have only just begun.

Give it up early. Start saving now. The slope only gets more slippery...duel-sided clipless, protein powder, Showerspass Wind/waterproof jacket, Sealskinz...nashbar.com, universalcycles.com, performance.com...it never ends.

P.S. just asking if my three photos included with the text posted OK. If separate attachments work better for the forum, I could do that too.

Beautiful bike. I like the all black color way and somehow the word CITY makes the whole design simple yet elegant. How are the tire treads treating you? encountered any bad road conditions where traction might be a problem?

Oh yeah, I remember your post...Beautiful bike. Very understated and classy. Doesn't scream 'STEAL ME!!' to the spontaneous bike thief, but anyone who knows and appreciates a quality ride will give you your props. My urban rig morphed into something similar, but not nearly as classy. Love the chain cover. Thanks for sharing the finished pics. Happy commuting!

When I decided to get a "real" commuter bike, the size and type of tread was a big consideration. I'm still wary of water but I feel much more sure footed on this bike. The full fenders are nice as well.

Nice looking commuter. Looks to be a very classy and comfortable ride.
