' never seen a Pegasus other than yours, but the Biopace cranks on that Pegasus is nice. I'm looking for one to put on my other commuting bike.

This is my previous commuter. It's been replaced with the LHT in my sig, and has been converted back to mountain bike trim. But it served me well for quite some time.

Thanks. I like your Rocky too, the Vertex is a *really* nice bike.

Rocky Mountain is probably by far my favourite bike company. Hand built wheels and top quality Canadian frames for the win

This is my old Mongoose. Since this picture was taken I have made a few changes. The generator light is gone (it stopped working ), the Acera derailleur (it came with an Exage) has been replaced by a Deore, it now has Freddy Fenders, and the Hutchinson Acrobat tires have been replaced by Schwalbe 2.35" Big Apples. I'm pretty sure this bike will outlive all my others, despite receiving the most abuse. A couple of weeks ago I rode it ON rail road tracks for about a quarter of a mile.

Ya know, it's not like I don't like or appreciate the new purpose made commuters, but these bikes we are showing are what I think of when I talk commuters. Custom made from whatever you have at the time you decide to start riding your bike to work instead of driving a motor vehicle.

How do you tell if it's a Pegasus?

also '91-92ish. Bought new and used to be my mountain bike. Now it's l'il hauler. Was originally red with white splatter (AKA pink from a distance). This was a neighborhood "Free" find. The fenders came separately, at the LFBC.

Tires were my add; wheels came from the GT Tequesta that never quite fit me right. Then the head tube blew apart.

But Trek has a lifetime frame warranty

I've posted this pic before, but couldn't miss out participating here. Mine is a 2005 Schwinn Mesa, thoroughly commuter-ized, including my favorite part - the GT Brahma handlebars. The fenders are Planet Bike Speedez.

Rear flap only. I don't have any good snow shots with the fender, unfortunately. I don't even have any good pictures of this bike really dirty. It got plenty dirty later this day (obviously not commuting) but I didn't have any battery left to capture the carnage.

Lots of in-motion snow shots though. This was a home-bound commute a few months ago.

That bike was my first decent bike I got brand new from my LBS when I was in 8th grade. I was no more than an inch shorter then, but I could ride comfortably with a quill stem set all the way down in the steerer. Now I'm not so limber. Back then when mtbs didn't yet have drastically sloping top tubes or tall suspension forks, lots of people ended up having really high seats and low bars. When I'm straddling the top tube, I only have a couple inches of clearance at the most. The bars are just barely higher than the seat, although I could lower the seat slightly and still be comfortable.

Here's my rig. I switched the tires to marathon supremes in 26 x 2.00, and added sks fenders. Also have a rear pannier that I adapted for discs.

Nestoreitor: really nice bike, really nicely set up. Not to h-j the thread, but how do you find the Marathon Supremes so far, and -- back on topic, how did you get such a neatly-done fender set-up?
Cheers

Thanks dude!

The Supremes are amazingly grippy. They are able to lock to the ground when deathgripping the hydros over clean surfaces, as my sore knee and back can attest. They simply can't slip. I've run them on asphalt, mud, sand, cobblestones, grass and gravel, and they react very confidently on all these surfaces due to their width.

Over really flat surfaces you can feel a smooth vibration due to the whatchamacallit grooves on the tires. I weight about 178 lbs, and run them 35 front 45 rear for cobblestones and gravel, and 40 front 50 rear for pavement and such. I am very happy with them.
[edit] No flats ever since I got the bike in August.

As for the fenders. They are SKS with the adjustable spokes.
The rear one I simply installed it spacing the distance to the tire to exactly my index finger width.
The front fender was a bit more challenging, because the dart 3 fork has no mounting holes whatsoever, so I had to improvise.

I drilled throught the fender to ziptie it to the fork's arch, and duct-taped then ziptied the spokes near the dropouts. The same finger rule as above for spacing.
Then I cut the fender's spokes to size and covered them in matte black plastic.

Here are some pics of the assemby:

I've owned my from new too. So, I just recall the "pegasus" decal before it wore off. I didn't pay much attention to components at the time, but I suppose it was pretty well stocked for the time with full Deore components. Now its pretty beat up but still a pleasure to ride.

[QUOTE=Nestoreitor;6182048]Thanks dude!

Cheers for the info. and set-up pics -- some inspiration there re. how to get a clean install

Of interest to me, because my bike is pretty much the same in essentials -- light (as I can get it, took some investing!) hardtail set up for commuting/road/lightish off-road/all-weather. Given that, the Marathon Supremes have looked interesting to me, as an alternative to Panaracer Pasela TG (1.5 or 1.75") which I've been using for a while now.
