How long is your commute?

Didn't see a thread with a poll like this (though one may exist). Respond with your ONE WAY mileage. Reason to post one way mileage is to make it easy to see how far away someone who commutes lives from work.

Thanks.

My daily commute is almost excactly 10 miles. Although if i'm feeling particularly weak, or it's cold, windy and rainy, i can take light rail, and shorten it to just over 4 miles. Similarly if I'm feeling especially energetic or adventurous, i have a route that is about 12 miles, but much more scenic (and more elevation)

That's all each way, so often I mix the routes up. Since it's slightly downhill on the way to work, I'll often do the 12 mile route in to work. If it was a long day at work or the weather turned foul, i'll take light rail and do the 4 miles commute home.

Round trip or one way?

One way it is then

7 miles mostly down hill to work, up hill on the ride home

Good question. I was thinking one way when I posted the poll but failed to so specify. OP edited.

Basically, it's downhill to work w/some climbs and uphill home w/one long mutha @ 18-20%-.5 mi. It takes a dip then goes up again for another .3. It takes me 10-20 minutes longer to get home depending on wind and whether I've got the reserve to take the 'big hill' straight on or do switchbacks. 18-20% w/a 48x28 low and loaded can be a little daunting after a long day. 15-17 mph on the way in and 12-15 on the way home is standard for me for the 20 mi.

32 miles. Unless I am working from home. In which case I just ride around the block to feel like I did something.

Was 15.5 miles by the shortest route. We just bought a house and now it's 18 miles. One way. Every day but Wednesday!

My commute is exactly 10 miles on the dot (more than one computer- one is set very accurately to my wheelsize). I can't justify going up to the 10.1 to 15 range in the poll.

Maybe if I move...

I have several regular commuting destinations. Most of them are between 5 and 10 miles, so that's what I entered. One is about 11 miles though.

Just ride a block around the house before setting off.

Door to door, it's 14 miles one way, but I generally take the bus the last 3 miles in the AM to avoid riding up a steep hill on the freeway shoulder (horrible, exhaust-filled stretch populated by maniacal AM car commuters - plus my husband yells at me every time I even consider it!). On the way home, I may take the same bus, or I may ride down an unpaved fire road. So usually it's 22-25 miles round trip.

my ride is about 16 miles one way... I usually will pay the buck and take the bus home after work, If i'm feeling good I'll ride home or maybe half way then jump on the bus.

From my new place, it's between 7 1/2 and 9 miles depending on the route I take. Just started comutting via this direction from the city, and haven't even explored all my options yet, I try to find a slightly different route every day (through West/SW Philly to the SW suburbs of Philly)

my daily commute to school is a little more than 6mi. I don't have a computer on my bike, (one of the reasons I ride my bike is to escape from technology), but from the map I created on mapmyride.com my RT is 12.78mi.

Maybe once I find a job, my commute will be a little longer.
My ride to the beach is only 15mi. Powder white sand beaches of Pensacola.

Just over 14 miles each way. 3 bridges, come really crappy roads, and one rather long hill.

Non-winter - 25 miles
Winter - 7 miles (drive/bike split) - unless the weather is nice and the roads not all covered in salt

20.4 miles one way. I only commute Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays. I take my dog to the dog park on Tuesdays and Thursdays so he can get some exercise for our weekend day hikes.

My commute is about 19 miles each way with my normal commute. If I'm training for some ride it's about 19 in the morning and if I go the long way home with my friend it 50 home. Usually it's 19. :-)

My shortest route to work is just over 6 miles and I think it's too long. On a nice day its fine and dandy.
