First Commute ever today
I am a fairly regular road cyclist at 14 years old, after getting my first road bike at the end of 2006, and starting from there.
I read this forum fairly often, and picked up a few tips before I decided to start commuting.
I decided in about December/January that I would start commuting the 6 miles to my bus stop in the mornings and afternoons when it was warmer as I wouldnt be able to commute all the way to school (54 mile RT with lots of hills)
The ride this morning was pleasant, but cold, but this afternoon it was warm and sunny.
I plan on carrying on commuting almost if not every day.

i jam my thumbs up and back into the tubes. this way i can point my fingers straight out in front to split the wind and attain an even more aero profile, and the usual fixed gear - zen - connectedness feeling through the drivetrain is multiplied ten fold because my thumbs become one with the tubing.

So are you currently 14 or have you been riding since you were 14? 54 mile round trip to school is quite the feat! Keep up the good work.

welcome to the wonderful world of being a commuter, you sound like you have put your plan into action!you will see and hear things that most young adults will not get to experience, the smells of a fresh morning, birds singing, instead they will be stuck on a smelly old school bus!,GOOD LUCK and keep us posted!

If you've been riding for a while and have done rides around 30-40 miles you could consider riding the 6 miles to the bus in the morning and then riding the whole way home at night. Wouldn't be easy but it would be an excellent challenge. Keep up the good work!
As said earlier: stay safe out there.

Good job riding to school!
To get to my high school I had to take one bus to the public school, and then wait there for another to shuttle me to my school. The end result was it was faster for me to ride my bike because of the wait time between busses. I often missed the first bus and had to ride, but never was late!
I don't remember any other kids riding in. How about your school? How many other cycle commuters do you have?

Thanks everyone for all the encouragement
I am currently 14, have been riding seriously for about a year now.
I would love to, but my bus is a small minibus and wouldn't be able to put the bike on there
I don't think any other kids ride to my bus stop regularly, maybe one or two have done occasionally. A few ride to school, but I think they live much closer than I do

Good on Ya! Where I live there's a law preventing school age children from riding bikes to school. Ridiculous, but true. You're so far ahead of the rest, already in terms of self-determination, discipline and 'out-of-the-box' thinking w/courage, too. We may, at some point instead of pm-ing you, have to address you as PM... Keep safe and the rubber side down.
