When Animals Attack!

It appears to be Canada Goose nesting season. I had a nice (and rare) tailwind going home today riding along the service drive of a major urban freeway. I was moving about 25 mph towards a green light when I spotted a Canada Goose on the grassy strip alongside the road.

He lowered his head and ran/flapped/flew right at me. He was coming at me from my right front quarter with murder in his tiny malevolent little heart. Fortunately he misjudged my speed and he was turning hard to his right to intercept. I was able to jerk the bike left abruptly right before he hit - crossing the lane and making the goose miss wide to my right.

I think slamming into a 20 pound goose at a combined 35 mph would have ruined my whole day. Watch for them if they are standing along the side of the road.

INCOMING!!! Around here, alot of people think they're cute and feed them in the industrial parks.

Me, I can't stand them! They hiss and leave green ornaments all over the place!!!

And when they're surrounded by a crowd of wee little baby geese, better to be driving a tank

Honk with them, not at them. You need to know how to assume the proper echelon wing position and hold it so they will not honk at you.

GTFU!

They are a year round nusance around here (NW IN).... they make fishing at the ponds a PITA.... Goose poo everywhere is NO fun!

There is a nusance hunting season for them, and land owners are allowed (with special permission) to trap and remove them from their property.....

Worse than pigeons!

Geeze! that's a bit early for them to be nesting? They are usually fairly easy to intimidate until they have a nest?

On the other hand, if no-one is around, and you have large panniers, and a a big stick, (heavy frame pump?)
and you don't mind a bit of plucking......... ( I said plucking! )
