Am I the only person who doesn't like to ride at dusk

I try to avoid it if possible. I think its a dangerous time to be on the road regardless of your mode of transport.

Dawn and dusk, specifically when the sun is near the horizon, have got to be the most dangerous times of the day for cyclists or anyone, as you say.. I'd rather ride in the day, and I'd MUCH rather ride in the dark.

It's bad if you're going east or west. I used to have a helmet with a visor. That helped some.

It only sucks because the roads tend to be busy around then with rush hour. However, dusk is my favourite time of day. I love the colour of the sky.

As much as I dislike the way a visor looks on a helmet, I use one most of the time while I'm commuting. It really does help if you're going east/west at the right (i.e., wrong) time of day.

As an added bonus, hail seems to hurt slightly less when it hits the visor rather than your eyes.

As for drivers not being able to see cyclists during the same times of the day, I'm not really sure what the answer is other than careful route selection or simply assuming you are invisible and acting accordingly.

Assuming invisibility means stopping everytime a left turning car is in front of you Which is still a major pain and would detract from the attractiveness of commuting at that time. That being said the lastmonth or two I have had 2 close calls from this type of driver, other than delaying my commute by an hour I don't see any solution other than heightened vigilance.

I hate it. Much like the headwinds, the sun is in my face on the way to and way from work. I need to find a better job that is West of where I work.

I can't remember the last time that I stopped for a driver, but I do find myself speeding up and slowing down to avoid situations more often when I know the sun can be a factor for them. As I mentioned earlier, careful route planning and modification are probably your safest option.

I hate riding in twilight. It's too dark to be seen, but too bright for my lights to make much difference.

Unfortunately I have done everything I can for route planning. I don't stop but if I did want to cut all risk I would do so. Typically I do the same as you but even speeding up and slowing down has risks.

I was on a bike tour with four other riders when an elderly driver, blinded by the sun, rear ended one of the cyclists. happened at dusk and really this guy didn't hit the brakes until well after impact. Fortunately, my friend was okay- bike was totaled and he got a nice new bike out of it. so yeah, dusk can be a dicey time to ride.

If you ride east or west into the sun. I had a job like that for 5 years and I believe riding into the sun is the most dangerous visibility condition.

Riding north/south is no biggie at dawn/dusk and is not such an issue if the sun is to your back.

The thing I find dicey about it at times is that colors (or colours, if you prefer ) and textures tend to mush together. That combined with the fact that many motorists do not turn on their lights can make it hard for me to see them--just as frightening a prospect as not being seen by them.

I actually like riding at that time of day--particularly in summer when the sun's no longer beating down like crazy. But I'm always extra careful because of visibility issues...

+1. I don't like riding into the sun, particularly when it's low at dawn or dusk. I modify my work schedule when that starts happening.

I don't mind it at all, though on my commute I ride west in the morning and east in the afternoon, so the sun is always at my back.

In my dictionary, "dusk" happens after the sun has set. The period shortly before or as the sun is setting is known as "sunset".

(and I love riding at dusk)

I don't particularly like riding in the dusk. I always found dusk to be a sad time. You're watching the day die.

Once it gets dark, you can relax though since the day is already dead, and welcome the night.

There have been a lot of days when I went to bed early AM and it was dark and I wake up and it is dark having slept through the whole day. It can get a bit depressing I guess after some time. I have a crumby work schedule. My sleep schedule is all out of whack and I am very pale lol.
