DIY backpack designs

This is just to have fun--these ideas don't have to be marketable or perfect.

1) I don't know what they're called, but the mail room at my high school had a bag for recycling paper--it was about 3' tall, kinda greenish, felt like wax, looked like it was woven from thin strips of paper, maybe. Take one of those, load it with whatever (leaving some room), bunch up the excess at the top, tie it with a constrictor knot using some webbing, pass one end of webbing over each shoulder and beneath armpits, cross the ends over the bag, then tie at your belly button.

2) Something like this:

but on your back (and without the baby).

What'cha got?

Not DIY, but you could probably use a pizza delivery bag for something--maybe with a rack.

Also, mail and newspaper delivery bags might be a cheaper alternative to messenger bags (if you can find them).

Hmm, never thought of that (I have 3 of those at home, and have seen lots on bikes).

I knew a guy who used a pizza bag as his sole bag throughout college. Here's a backpack that I just recently made. I wanted something more aero and with cleaner lines than bags on the market. Just because I have to take my lunch and a change of clothes on my commute, why should I settle for something that looks freddish(I know opinions will vary) and slows me down? I get +.5-1 mph w/ this bag over my old school bag. The sweat spot on my back is smaller too. If you guys have more questions or opinions about the bag, I'd love to discuss it. I'm brainstorming v2.0 right now. The next one'll have waterproofing, hidden pockets, expansion folds, and a larger zippered opening.

+.5 - 1 = -.5 mph

...it seems that your old school bag is faster

My commuter is too narrow to fit in my trainer so I had to use the mtb. Note how I'm trying approximate my normal riding position. Here's my normal commuter:

My profs used to warn me about not using enough parentheses. +(.5-1) Happy now?

+(.5-1)=+-.5

+-.5=-.5

But I only got a 26 on math ACT so it might be wrong.

Hey...I really dig your homemade backpack...looks exactly like what I'm looking for! I've been commuting to the gym on my roadbike, but I need a bag that can hold a bit more than what I'm currently using. I too, wanted something more aero, and that wouldn't feel as if I'm carrying a small child on my back. Does that bag you made have enough capacity to hold a pair of running shoes, a couple of small towels, maybe an extra shirt, and a few small essentials? I like the idea of your new version having pockets and waterproofing...sounds awesome. Heck...I'd even pay you to make me one.
