Lovely encounter with a JAM
I had a great encounter with a JAM this morning. I usually arrive at work around 4:30 am so I don't commonly interact with motorists on my ride in. This morning a car had to stop at a stop sign for an extra two seconds as I passed on the road in front of it. It must have infuriated the driver or maybe he was just infuriated by the sight of me so he began screaming "Are you gay?" "What are you doing on a bike in this weather?" (65 degrees???).
Normally I ignore shouts from JAMs as it seems to make them mad to be in a one sided fight, but for some reason (maybe the hour) I immediately responded to this idiot. I yelled back "$3.50 a gallon, HA HA HA". There was no response for a while then (I was way down the road by now) I heard the guy going nuts screaming "That's not funny #%*hole". "*&@# you". "You piece of *&%#". Eventually I couldn't make out his rant as I was getting to far away. I guess gas prices are a hot button item these days, because thats all you have to say to get someone steamed.

Epic Win.
And 65 degrees? That's when I'm loving the shorts and t-shirt. You don't get cold, and if you back off a bit, you don't sweat, either. That's quite possibly the optimal bicycling temperature.

Nice...
65 degrees @ 4 in the morning... I wish, then again that'd make the ride home in the afternoon 80ish degrees.

I'm SO remembering that. I guess people have given me the "are you crazy?" comment before, and I've replied with "no, but paying $3.50 to drive 10 miles surely is".. but doesn't get that reaction.
Man, that's freaking priceless. You win the Internet.

I have to say that 65 is my favorite temperature for biking, no tights or long sleeves, no sweat till you get up to 600W. The guy was desperate for put down material; riding inside a cage seems detrimental to creative thought .

65* is perfect riding weather!!! I guess it has to be shorts & flip flops weather before he'll drive his bike to the bike path.
I like the "that's not funny" response.. it always shows you hit a nerve.. a tender, inflamed nerve.

I love it: a hapless motorist left grasping at straws (too bad he's so trapped that he can't even realize it).

Nope... just too close to Boston. For some reason the place seems to breed insane drivers. I think maybe it's the utterly disorganized way all the roads are laid out (they hadn't heard of grids here until it was already too late).

My favorite eastern Mass. driving maneuver is when a driver pulls out of a side street or lot and completely blocks traffic in the closest lane as they wait for an opening in traffic in the far lane; usually there isn't an opening so the driver will wait (blocking traffic) for an appropriate amount of time (I'm not sure how they determine what is appropriate) then cut someone off. Its a thing of beauty; know as the "Brockton merge". From what I can figure (based on the driver's facial expression) I think they believe this is a legitimate legal maneuver.

My usual advice: Take a picture or video. Or just hold up your phone and act like you are. People know if they act like a jackass and they're being taped they'll wind up on the internet/the news/their email inbox - or somewhere.
Coast off and say "see you on YouTube"

stole your bike
65 degrees that early and someone is wondering what you're doing on the road? He obviously doesn't know the joy of an pre-dawn ride in balmy weather, I can't wait for those!
