Traffic safety vests
Typically when I commute, I use this horrendous orange and reflective tape safety vest from Home Depot. One day last week, I did not wear it and on that trip home, I had several incidents where drivers simply did not see me.
This morning, I forgot the vest and a semi made a slow right turn making me stop completely when I had the light. Other incidents this morning convince me that for whatever reason, the vest is MORE visible than THREE large flashing red lights on the bike.
I won't be forgetting my vest and may even invest in a better one. Does anyone know the classes for these vests and what they mean?

I suspect any vest is better than no vest. I usually use a Class 2 because that is what my company buys for us The one I currently have is lime green with the Scotchlite reflective stripes on a dayglo orange back ground. This is similar to the model I use... I think that the combination of colors really catches the eye.

Got mine at Harbor freight then modified it. An interesting note, I have had several peds call me officer and ask me things. When I informed them I was not a policeman, they said the vest made them think so. maybe that is why cars give you more room.

By the way, if anyone looks at Harbor Freight vests, look for my comparison thread. The one with the light-greyish reflective stripes is BY FAR the most reflective. I threw my other HF vest away after comparing the two at night.

Tate65 question
Tate,
Where did you get the bicycle fist stencil? That is so cool that I would like to add to my best and possibly the side of my panniers.
