First Commute

So today I got on the ol' bike for my first commute to work today. Turns out its about 8 miles each way. On the way home tonight at about 1130p or so, I was nearly hit by a bat, no not as in baseball, but as in a flying rodent. Who would have thought that there were flying rodents in Chicago, I thought they were all of the sewer variety.

Of course it also had to rain today, but the ride home was dry.

I think I have to make some adjustments to the bike as I'm a little sore in the shoulders. Other then that it was a great ride. Didn't realize how tired my legs would be after I got home though. But that is to be expected as I'm on my feet at the entire time I'm at work.

Oh and the drunken frat guys riding their bikes tonight was at least entertaining.

Awesome. If you haven't ridden in a while you may find your ass will get sore after a while, but that will go away with time, same with the legs i guess
So what motivated you to change to the bike commute?

What motivated me was, I'm trying to re-capture my youth, well at least the health of my youth. I also noticed that the drive was any where from 30-50 minutes depending on traffic and the ride is any where from 45-60 minutes depending on how long I've worked.

That and my wife is taking a month long trip to Japan, so I want to surprise her when she gets back with a better physique.
