Carrying U-Lock on a rear rack
 

So I finally got around to getting a rear rack for my langster. Are there any accessories that would allow me to secure a Ulock to it, or are bungie cords only option?

I put mine in my trunk bag. Much less noisy than bungee cording.

Some U-locks come with a frame attachment to hold them. I don't like them because they strip the paint off your frame eventually.

With a narrow enough U lock it may slide right down the side of the rack...mine does. It stays in place reasonably well with a cargo bungee that attaches front, rear and both sides. I think it was $10 at nashbar. It is noisy on big bumps though.

I use the Delta Cargo Net.

My LBS advised against using the frame attachment. They said the locks are so heavy that the frame attachments often collapse or fall off after a little while.

I tried the bungee thing, but it rattled every time I hit a bump, no matter how tight I lashed it down. I just put it in my trunk bag, it just fits.

Mine has that, but I put it on my seat post and it doesn't seem to affect it. It also seems to be the only spot it doesn't get in the way.

I found a way to slip my lock around a few pieces of the rack so that it fits snugly and doesn't rattle. It took about 30 minutes of trying different things to find it, but it works great. And now that I know exactly what to do, I can put it on and take it off in no time at all. Just try puzzling your way through it--I'm sure there's gotta be a way to do something similar with yours.

I attach mine in much the same way as others, just find a good way to lock it directly to the rack - think of it as a puzzle. I also use my pannier closures (Ortleib) to help keep it in place. And yes, it rattles. BUT it does help notify people I'm coming up behind them - esp. pedestrians. ;)

Ride with it sticking out of the back of your jeans, like any good hipster does. :D

I use Velcro cable ties to lash my U-lock to the rack.

Keep in mind that the big, heavy U-locks (I carry two) will beat your rack to death by a thousand blows.

I was able to carry mine on the flat top off the bike rack. The rounded end fit in the raised lip near the seat and a 2" wide velcro strap arround the barrel to the cross pieces kept everything tight. An adde benefit is that it is an extra lip that it extended over the pannier attachment in case I forget its velcro strap. I used to interleave it and wire tie it to the side but it rattled more. I also tried keeping it in the pannier but it was big enough that it would turn and I would strike it with my heel. I always thought a rifle like holster out of leather or plastic might be nice for the side of the rack.
